Summer Camp

Paws what you’re doing and mark your calendar for Friday, June 21, 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center. Students with the Carson City School District, in partnership with the Wild Horse Children’s Theater, will debut their Summer Theater Camp’s adaptation of Disney’s "101 Dalmatians, Kids." Admission to the play is free of charge; however, donations will be accepted.

The annual Camp Carson program for kindergarten through 6th grade children through Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is now open for registration with camp beginning June 17.

Sierra Lutheran High School, in collaboration with Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School and Mt. Cross Ministries, has released its 2019 Summer Programs registration. Collectively, the three entities will offer seven unique summer programs, including two week-long overnight programs.

Come check out the Summer Camp Expo, free and open to kids and families. Saturday March 16th 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., at Meadowood Mall Center Court. Get information and learn about more than 20 local summer camps! Families can register for the 2019-2020 school year, get Washoe County School Disctrict resources and information, and participate in workshops for students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Recently, SkillsUSA had its Regional Photography Competition, and all five participating CHS students are going to State. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college, and middle school students across the nation in trade training programs and technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.

CARSON CITY AND DOUGLAS COUNTIES- The Salvation Army is collecting Christmas Toys for disadvantaged children. As this year’s campaign finishes up the Army is running short on gifts for middle school and high school boys and girls.

The Carson City Symphony Association announces the third annual instrumental music scholarship for Carson City students ages 5-17.

Silver City is wrapping up summer in style with a day of fun in the park on Saturday, Sept. 1. A rummage sale to benefit Silver City Arts will begin at 9 a.m. and an afternoon and evening of live music will run 3 to 8 p.m. Starting at 2:30 beer, wine and soda will be for sale to benefit the Silver City School House and future music events.

RENO — The Northern Nevada community is invited to join friends, parents, children and those affected directly by bleeding disorders during the Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation’s UNITE for Bleeding Disorders Walk and 5K on September 22, 2018, at Bartley Ranch.

The Carson City School District's Gifted and Talented Education Program, also known as GATE, recently hosted a summer theater camp in partnership with Wild Horse Children's Theater.

The Carson High School robotics team, Cyber Mafia, engages the Carson City community in many ways through demonstrations, workshops and volunteer service. There are a few spots remaining for the summer Robotics Camp, the week of June 11-15 at Western Nevada College.

It's nearly summer and that means time to sign up for Carson City area youth summer camp. Online registration begins this Wednesday, April 26, for the St. Teresa Summer Camp, which runs June 12 through August 11 for Carson City and surrounding area children grades kindergarten through 8th.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada’s 2017 cookie program is officially underway. Girl Scout troops will host their cookie booths in front of retail shops and grocery stores from Friday, March 3 to April 2, 2017.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties sponsors Stand Tall teams in four high schools and one middle school in the Lyon County School District.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada will celebrate the beginning of the 2017 Cookie Season with the Carson City Cookie Kickoff event. The celebration is Friday, Jan. 6 at the Carson City Mall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

To help raise funds for the Salvation Army, two Carson City area Kiwanis groups are having a friendly Challenge.

The Kiwanis club of Carson City has been bell ringing for The Salvation Army at Smiths on Hwy 50 for many years and now the Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada have challenged them to a “ring off.”

Bell ringers are back for the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign with more than 30 locations throughout Carson City, Douglas County and surrounding communities.

The campaign goal for 2016 is $160,000, said Salvation Army Captain Mark Cyr. Bell ringers in 2015 raised $151,200.

The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal works to help with holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and its Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution. The organization will host a job fair Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Serving Carson City and Douglas County, 661 Colorado St.

The Carson City Symphony Association is accepting applications for an instrumental music scholarship for Carson City students age 5 to 17. The annual scholarship was established by a generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board member and friend of the Carson City Symphony Association.

The Good Intentions and Rick Shea will perform in concert Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at the Silver City School House.
The event It is a fundraiser for the School House, Silver City Arts and the new outdoor venue in the Silver City Park called the Silver Pavilion.
