DAYTON, Nev. Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties is partnering with Lyon County Sheriff’s Department and the DEA to sponsor a "Prescription Drug Disposal” at Smith’s Grocery in Dayton on Saturday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CARSON CITY — Nevada health officials will use a federal grant recently awarded to the state’s Medicaid program to grow Substance Use Disorder services.

The Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative, a cooperative community effort to elevate people out of poverty, invites members of the community to participate in a colloquy on the topic of preventing substance abuse. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 26 at 6:45 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church’s Family Life Center located at 115 N Division St.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

Healthy Communities Coalition’s January breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan.

The public meeting is on Thursday, Jan. 10, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street in the Lahontan Room, on the left side of the building that also houses the Senior Center.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ November breakfast meeting includes a discussion and request for input on the Coalition’s updated Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan, plus a free training on Naloxone and harm reduction. The public meeting is on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

Partnership Douglas County, formerly known as Partnership of Community Resources, hosted the 2nd annual Empower Youth Conference at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 29. PDC, often called “The Partnership”, is a nonprofit community coalition that has served Douglas County since 1993. PDC’s mission is to promote a healthy community through education and resource connection.

With public safety, awareness and community at the center, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 15th annual Cops and Kids Open House this Saturday, May 19 at the sheriff's office administration building.

CARSON CITY — In a report released this week, the National Safety Council notes Nevada has enacted comprehensive policies and practices to eliminate opioid overdoses and prevent prescription drug abuse. The publication titled Prescription Nation, provides state rankings based on the implementation of six key actions identified as model policy and practice in addressing the opioid epidemic.

CARSON CITY — Emergency regulations aimed at curbing opioid abuse in Nevada took effect Friday when the Division of Public and Behavioral Health filed the regulations with the Secretary of State to comply with Assembly Bill 474, also known as the Controlled Substance Abuse Prevention Act.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services announced an important reminder Friday that the provisions of Assembly Bill 474, the Controlled Substance Abuse Prevention Act, will go into effect January 1, 2018.

Gov. Brian Sandoval expressed his gratitude Thursday to the Nevada Legislature for responding to his requests as outlined in his State of the State address in January of this year.

Healthy Communities Coalition’s Stand Tall youth leadership teams were one of just 9 groups across the U.S. awarded a Cardinal Health Foundation funded opportunity for training in peer to peer presentations and education about the harmful effects of prescription drug misuse and its tie to heroin abuse.

The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties will have 3 guest speakers for their February breakfast meeting. The meeting is on Thurs February 9th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Speakers include Lori Nichols from Foster Care Recruitment, and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care Program. They will explain the pressing need for foster homes in the Lyon and Storey County region, and offer ways to help increase the number of foster parents.

Partnership Carson City is seeking applications for primary prevention services within Carson City.

The purpose of this funding is to implement direct service primary prevention programs and strategies at the community level. PCC receives funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency.

“Drug Use is Life Abuse” is a message on red wristbands that is spreading throughout the community in celebration of the Red Ribbon campaign Oct. 21-31. The week-long event is one of the nation’s largest substance abuse prevention awareness causes.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City School District, Grocery Outlet, community agencies including the Boys and Girls Club, counseling and A.A. groups are partners to make youth and citizens aware that substance abuse affects everyone.

Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo and Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger recognized moms and their children at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.

The awards were in recognition of the first graduating pre-school class of the District Attorney’s Moms Program and recognition to the moms for learning new parenting and job skills to help them into the future, according to a news release.

The Carson City School District and Carson City Sheriff’s Office are partnering together to prevent substance abuse by celebrating National Red Ribbon Campaign the dates of October 21-31, 2013.

The Red Ribbon Campaign was started by the family of fallen D.E.A. Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena after he died in the line of duty. This national event was later recognized by the United States Congress and has since become the nation’s largest substance abuse prevention awareness campaign with an estimated 80 million Americans participating annually.

The United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra has chosen several Carson City area nonprofit organizations and agencies to help with funding in areas that address crime and substance abuse prevention among youth.

The partnerships, announced Monday, are aimed to address the complex conditions that are putting youth at risk, said Karen Barsell, CEO and president of United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

The United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra has chosen several Carson City area nonprofit organizations and agencies to help with funding in areas that address crime and substance abuse prevention among youth.
