Good morning Carson City! We’ve got a ton of great events this Saturday, so check below for a list of delightful fall activities!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

The public is welcome to the first ever "Gandy Dance" to celebrate the Gandy: also known as a railroad maintenance worker. 1800's music by the Pickett's Charge Band, dance lessons, Story Telling, Gandy spiking demonstration, Quilters, finger foods, 1800's games, unique Silent Auction items, train simulator, model Depot Tours and more.

This event supports the Historical Society of Dayton Valley's (HSDV) restoration of the historic 1881 Carson & Colorado Railroad Depot.

Happy Sunday Carson City! It’s going to be another warm day today with a high of 77. Looks like Mother Nature finally gave in now that it’s officially June. On the docket today we’ve got concerts, bike rides, story telling, and more! Check below to see what’s happening today!

It was a full house on Thursday evening in the Bristlecone room at Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City. The subject matter, dementia, affects many who care for aging family members. While the world is still searching for a cure, the good news is dementia research has hit record levels of funding and support in our country.

It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. You’ll find annual events like Civil War Days in Virginia City and the Best in the West Rib Cook-off in Sparks, in addition to smaller happenings like the monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk and a roller derby double-header. If you haven’t made plans to head for the hills, take a look at your options and have a fun and safe Labor Day weekend.

Let’s get August off to a good start. The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The afternoon ice cream social at the historic Foreman-Roberts House is a perfect family-friendly treat before heading to the Brewery Arts Center for tonight’s free concert. Keep reading, you’ll find a little bit of something for everyone in the Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City areas.

Time to get July off to a fun start. The downtown Wine Walk is a great way to spend the day exploring new shops, galleries, and restaurants. If you’re feeling competitive, head down to the Carson Mall for their watermelon and hot dog eating contests. The summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center continue with a singer/songwriter showcase.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

Not a cloud in the sky, and yet we have been hit by a perfect storm: Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby Day, and the monthly wine walk have all collided. Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

With soggy weather here, some cancellations are inevitable. One thing you can count on, however, is the monthly Downtown Business Association’s wine walk; it’s a rain, shine, or blizzard event. Stay dry and well-fed with the Kiwanis annual BINGO Spaghetti Feed at the Carson Senior Center. The Brewery Arts Center hosts some pretty amazing vocalists for their newest fundraiser, ‘Evening with the Divas.’ Keep reading for even more Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton options.

I’m going to apologize right now. I can’t anticipate what this storm system will throw at us, so some of these planned events could get cancelled. One event that is never afraid of Mother Nature is the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. Come rain, shine, or blizzard, you’ll find can sip, stroll, and discover starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Carson Hot Springs aren’t afraid of a little snow, and a special visit from Megan the Mermaid will make the icy hot experience more memorable. “Peanutcracker – The Story In A Nutshell,” is a kid-sized version of the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” told in 45-minutes by 50 local school school children. Performed by Sierra Nevada Ballet, there will be performances Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center.

Dear goodness, autumn is beautiful around here. The leaves changing, the snow dusting our mountains, and the air is crisp. Keep a jacket handy, and enjoy a jaunt up Voltaire Canyon. The League of Women Voters and Sierra Nevada Forums are almost done with this election, but not before they bring you a discussion about four of our ballot questions: be at the BAC Performance Hall by 6pm to see what they have to say.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Parks and Rec’s Easy Walk is a special trip to Spooner Lake where you’ll get to enjoy the crisp autumn morning in a beautiful setting. Listen to the voices of the past as members of the Washoe Tribe recount stories of their people in their native tongue at the Carson Valley Cultural Center and Museum in Minden. J's Bistro in Dayton hosts a spaghetti feed fundraiser for the Remote Area Medical program. A special lecture on the Sutro Tunnel takes place in Virginia City this evening.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has returned and will be at the Community Center tonight, if you were quick enough to grab free tickets from the Chamber of Commerce. Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. Hear the stories and legends of the Washoe People in their native language with translations into English at the Carson Valley Cultural Center. Continue on for even more to do.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

TUESDAY:

Whether you celebrate taco Tuesday, Tahoe Tuesday, or just any day that the sun is shining, enjoy. Dayton kids are in for a treat at the Dayton Library with at reading of 'The Tortoise and the Hare.' The Reno Rodeo is still around, so hit up their carnival and watch the cowboys do their thing. If you can't make it to Reno, Country Line Dance at Carson Lanes will let you get a taste of what you're missing. Tonight, enjoy singer-songwriter Canyon White at Living the Good Life. However you spend today, have a great one, Carson City.

TUESDAY:

It's going to be toasty today. Luckily, weekly Parks and Rec 'Easy Walk' starts at 8 a.m., so you'll be off the trail before the sun gets too far overhead. The Brewery Arts Center hosts the Carson City Classic Cinema Club the first Tuesday of each month; join them this evening for trivia and a showing of John Wayne's 'Stagecoach.' Dance the night away to the sounds of big band or cowboys: swing dance lessons are at El Charro Avita, while country line dancing can be found in the Eleventh Frame Lounge at Carson Lanes.

TUESDAY: Bike to Work Week

This is a reminder that the big Labor Day Weekend, Friday Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 7, is around the corner and for many folks in this general area, it will be their last big outdoor adventure of 2015.

Returning for a second year, storyteller Joel ben Izzy will present his newest tales in "Buried Treasures - Stories to carry you around the world and back again." at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday July 29, at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

Memorial Day weekend is nearly here and for many it is the first outdoor adventure of 2015. Pack your rain gear for the long holiday, just in case as there is a chance of showers. So, where to go on the long weekend?

Carson Now reader Theresa Lynn Thornton alerted us that Deaf Pride Week is being recognized at Western Nevada College this week.
"We have two huge events coming up, one Friday in the Carson Nugget Hall (Open Hands Night, where you can watch people tell stories and sign songs) from 6-8 and Saturday, our big event, at noon for everyone to come enjoy with free pizza drinks bounce house and face painting," said Thornton. "It all benefits our deaf studies program and helps the deaf community come together."

Local dentistry, Champagne Family Dental, takes a step to improve children’s oral health in the Truckee Meadows by hosting Story Time at Barnes & Noble Booksellers to educate children on oral health through stories and playful activities Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
