Tahoe RCD Records Largest Stormwater Flows at Monitoring Sites

The early storm event that began on January 7 with over 5 inches of rain in some regions of the Lake Tahoe Basin before turning to snow, delivered a massive amount of runoff to the Lake in a short period of time.

During this storm event the Tahoe RCD Stormwater Monitoring Program measured the highest flows ever recorded at all eight monitoring locations since monitoring began in 2013. Our Tahoe Valley site, located off Tahoe Keys Blvd, measured 1.5 million cubic feet of flow, nearly 90% of the flow that was observed throughout the whole 2016 water year!

NDOT makes flood related repairs, reopens Kingsbury Grade

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation has again reopened State Route 207, also known as Kingsbury Grade, following repairs to flood-related erosion.

Between rain and snow from storms, Carson City assesses roads and damage

Carson City is taking the current break in winter weather to address the recovery process. Public Works is leading Damage Assessment teams, which are comprised of Public Works, Parks, Recreation & Open Space, Fire Department and State Division of Emergency Management assessors to evaluate the damage inflicted across the city. Parks, homes, trails and infrastructure, like sidewalks and roads, were impacted.

Carson City Landfill closed through the weekend due to flooding

The Carson City Landfill is closed until Monday, Jan. 16, due to flooding as a result of the recent storms.

One lane of Highway 395 northbound has reopened at Stephanie. Southbound is still closed.

UPDATE 2:45PM: Both the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 395 are closed due to flooding along the Cradlebaugh Bridge in Carson Valley, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Southbound Highway 395 motorists are advised to take Jacks Valley Road and connect to Foothill Road. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning people around at the RV park, he said.

Carson City Commute for Jan. 5: Road controls in effect

Snowfall in the Carson City area overnight has resulted in road controls on highways throughout the county, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reports.

Chains or snow tires are required on Interstate 580 in Carson City and Washoe County, particularly through Washoe Valley. Chains or snow tires are also required on U.S. Highway 50 East through Mound House and West up Spooner Summit, as well as U.S. Highway 395 South through the Carson Valley.

Carson City weather: Sierra storm causes travel delays, up to 4 inches of valley snow possible

A winter storm is moving into the region, bringing snow and slow going travel through the Sierra, with snow spillover expected later today around Carson City with 1 to 4 inches of snow possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Holiday Travel: Three Sierra storms expected for Thanksgiving week

The first of three winter storms will move into the Sierra tonight, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra from 7 p.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Though the first system is considered weak to moderate, it will cause significant travel delays in the Sierra due to the Thanksgiving holiday week and heavy traffic volume, according to the weather service.

UPDATE 4:15PM: The Sierra Interagency Dispatch Center (SFIDC) in Minden reports the Rock Fire in the Red Rock area north of Reno is now 50 percent contained 1,500 acres.
The voluntary evacuation orders for about 50 residents in the area has been lifted, and those residents are being allowed to return to their homes.
No injuries are reported with this fire.
