Good day Carson City, it is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. It is also Election Day. Polls in Nevada open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, enjoy another day of sunny skies with a hike, brisk walk or bike ride around town. There's both a morning and evening hike offered through Muscle Powered or you can simply walk through downtown Carson City and alongside the capitol building. Also featured today are activities that promote diabetes awareness through Carson Tahoe Health, numerous art showings, local political party election night events and a classic film being shown at the Brewery Arts Center.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Monday, Nov. 5, 2018. The beginning of the work week promises sunny skies and seasonable temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. With the time change now in full swing and the sun rising earlier, it's always good practice to keep your windshield clean and clear and to be mindful of those intersections, streets, crosswalks and sidewalks where the rising sun shines especially bright.

C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Graduates a New Group of Champions

CARSON CITY — On Oct. 16, 2018, the Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative graduated its latest class of Champions. For many of the guests — Board members and Allies — who have attended these familiar rites of passage in the past, the scene invoked many fond memories and a genuine sense of pride in the graduates who persevered through 16 weeks of Getting Ahead classes involving hard work and a lot of self-reflection.

NDOT completes much of Kingsbury Grade drainage enhancements

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation has substantially completed a project to enhance roadway drainage pipes on the Carson Valley side of State Route 207, also known as Kingsbury Grade, which links to Lake Tahoe.

Unemployment initial claims flat in January

Initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) in Nevada totaled 12,900 in January, down 0.5 percent from December’s reading of 13,000.

Overall, initial claims activity is down 8.7 percent relative to January of 2017, a decrease of 1,200 claims.

Holiday Crawl draws hundreds, raises money for program giving Carson City kids a Christmas

The Carson City community held its third annual Holiday Crawl Benefit 2017 on Saturday to raise money for the Holiday with a Hero campaign that gives local homeless children a chance to shop for themselves and family for Christmas. The downtown Carson City event was attended by more than 400 people, up about 100 from last year, organizers say.

Carson City Sheriff Furlong names Ken Sandage as New Undersheriff

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has named Assistant Sheriff Kenny L. Sandage to be appointed to the position of Undersheriff in December.

Mr. Sandage will assume the duties and responsibilities vacated by retiring Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Ken Sandage, a decorated 26 year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, has held the executive administrative position of Assistant Sheriff since August 22, 2014.
