Normally the Carson City Photo Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, but due to a scheduling conflict, the meeting is tonight. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

Pioneer High School is Carson City's alternative to the large comprehensive high school concept. The small campus keeps a small population of up to 200 where students get personalized learning, smaller student to teacher ratios, and the option to earn 9 or more high school or dual college credits per year.

Carson City/Storey County Cooperative Extension’s popular babysitting certification class will return to the office conference room March 20th and 21st.

The class is offered each year during the Carson City schools’ spring break. Class will be held in the Carson City Cooperative Extension office conference room, suite 15, at 2621 Northgate Lane. Hours for the class will be from 9-Noon March 20th and 21st.

The class this year has been condensed to only two days; 3 hours each day. Students attending the class should be at least 12 years-of-age.

Carson City Library summer program makes national top 10 list

Carson City Library’s NCLab Coding Camps have been named a top 10 summer learning program by the Young Adult Library Services Association.

“Everyone at the Carson City Library is so grateful for this national recognition,” said Carson City Library Director Sena Loyd. “We strive to make the library an active place of learning for the community."

Coding and 3-D modeling camp offered Tuesday and Thursday at Carson City Library

Students can learn coding and 3-D modeling at a camp offered at the Carson City Library over spring break next week. Sixth- through eighth-graders can attend the Tuesday camp while a camp for fourth- and fifth-graders will be held Thursday. Both camps will run 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Digitorium. Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days.

Spring break basketball camp offered for Carson City area youth

A three-day Spring break youth basketball camp will launch later this month for Carson City area boys and girls in the third through eighth grades.

Technology on display at annual science night

Anthony Aguilar and Jack Wilson, both 13-year-old eighth-graders at Eagle Valley Middle School gave a demonstration on how to work a robotic arm at the annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math Night.

“You can move it up or down or also turn the rotation of the claw,” explained Anthony. He showed how to pick up different items with it.

Catmandu will Close for Spring Break and Deep Cleaning - February 29th through March 15th.

Catmandu cat rescue, adoption center and sanctuary will be closed to the public from Monday, February 29th through Tuesday, March 15th for our annual Spring Break and deep cleaning projects. We re-open on Wednesday, March 16th and will resume our normal hours of operation which are: Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WNC, school district partners make ‘Jump Start ‘ early college program a success

Jump Start, a collaborative effort between Western Nevada College and five Nevada school districts to offer early college opportunities, is a success. That is the word from high schools in the region as its first year winds down.

From the grades being earned to the opportunities being afforded, high school juniors and seniors from 11 high schools are about to finish the first year of the Jump Start partnership by succeeding at a high rate.

Move to end population cap at Child Haven, emergency shelters criticized

Clark County’s emergency shelter for abused and neglected children saw its most recent population spike during spring break for local schools when it was housing up to 80 children, once again exceeding its state-licensed capacity of 70....
