Carson City Parks & Recreation Easy Walk to Sonoma Park

Note the change of time. Meet at 1003 Sonoma Street corner of Sonoma and Fremont. All walks required closed-toed shoes and water. Hat and sunscreen recommended.

Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved and smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately 1 hour in duration, depending on the location.

Tuesday Easy Walk Program - Sonoma Park

Meet at the corner of Sonoma and Fremont Street.

A different walk every week on Tuesdays. Walks are easy paced, on level ground, of approximately 1 hour duration, and of no cost to participants. All skill levels are welcome and leader is willing to work with participants to develop an individual walking program. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and leader may request physician’s release if needed.

Carson City's Fuji Dog Park to be closed for 2015 Nevada Fair

Beginning Monday, Fuji Dog Park at 601 Old Clear Creek Road will be closed to the public as a dog park in preparation of the Nevada Fair. The park will reopen for dog use on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Carson City Parks and Recreation encourages pet owners to take advantage of other "dog friendly" parks and paths in the area. Those parks are:

Community invited to Wednesday unveiling of Annemarie Bozin Memorial at Sonoma Park

The community is invited to the Annemarie Bozin Memorial Bench unveiling on Wednesday, July 15, 7 p.m. at Sonoma Park in Carson City. The event is a barbecue. Organizers are asking everyone to bring something to eat or drink, potluck style. Leave a comment below with what you can bring.

Friends of Annemarie Bozin launch fundraiser for Sonoma Park memorial

On March 28 the world lost one of its brightest and most beautiful individuals, Annemarie Bozin, who grew up in Carson City. She was 24.
She will forever be in our hearts and that is why, with the permission of the Bozin family and the Parks and Recreation Department, we want to build a memorial for her in Sonoma Park, a place she grew up near, played at as a youngster and now where her friends and family who are still in Carson City can gather and remember her for everything that she was.

There are plenty of things to do today; if you don't believe me, just take a look at the list! After enjoying a free spirits tasting at Red’s this afternoon, stick around for a movie with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. This month is ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy:’ a 1965 Charlton Heston flick about Michelangelo and the painting of the Sistine Chapel.

Court Appointed Special Advocates is holding an information hour this evening for those who would like more information on how to volunteer.

Fuji Dog Park to be closed for the NV 150 Fair

The Fuji Dog Park will be closed to the public as a dog park in Carson City during the NV 150 Fair. This will be from Monday, July 28 to Tuesday, August 5.

The park will reopen as the dog park on Wednesday, August 6. The city parks and recreation department notes it regrets any inconvenience this may cause, and during this time the public is encourage you to visit and enjoy one of its many other “dog friendly” park facilities. Those are:

— Long Ranch Park, Longview Way & Waterford Drive. Dogs are allowed on or off-leash in designated areas of the park.

Carson City road report for week of Jan. 6-12

Carson City commuters can expect the following road detours, utility and shoulder work beginning Monday. The following road report is for the week of January 6-12:

Beginning Monday, January 6, through Friday, January 10, West Fifth Street will be closed between Nevada Street and Division Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. Detours will be signed.
