Tahoe snowboarder spends cold night lost in mountains after going out-of-bounds at resort

A 32-year-old man is lucky to be alive after spending the night lost earlier this week in the mountains of South Lake Tahoe after snowboarding out-of-bounds at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Olympian Jamie Anderson to appear at Saturday's Boarding for Breast Cancer festival at Sierra Resort

Olympic champion Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe will be part of 20th Boarding for Breast Cancer Snowboard and Music Festival, Shredding the Love this Saturday at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.

The inspiration behind B4BC was a young woman named Monica Steward, co-founder of Bonfire, who at was diagnosed with breast cancer the age of 26 and passed away in 1996 at the age of 29.

The snow is falling in the Sierras and looks like we will be allowed to enjoy all the wondrous activities and sports of Winter in earnest for the first time in three years. Are you ready? Better yet, is your body physically fit and/or conditioned?
If you are in need of a little assistance or guidance, the staff at Well Being gym would like to help. Our Winter Sport and Activity Conditioning course re-starts Monday, January 18 at 6 a.m. and continues each M/W/F at the same time through mid March.

Forest Service seeking input on proposed improvements at Heavenly

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public comments on proposed improvements to the existing skiing and snowboarding terrain near the top of the gondola at Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts look for winter employees; to host job fairs Nov. 6-7

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are accepting applications and will host job fairs in November.

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.

Lake Tahoe planning agency, backcountry skiers work to address winter recreation access

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, El Dorado County, and members of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance announced Monday they've partnered to create a coalition of stakeholders to maintain and enhance public access for winter backcountry skiing and snowboarding around Lake Tahoe.

“We’re optimistic about this opportunity to work together to get back some of the access that we have lost in the past, and work to enhance access in the future. Let’s together reclaim and preserve backcountry access in the Tahoe Basin,” said Mike Schwartz and Todd Offenbacher, of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance.

Heavenly ski resort at Tahoe shifts to spring operations, Sierra launches lift ticket deal

Beginning on Monday, March 30, Heavenly Mountain Resort at south shore Lake Tahoe will offer mountain access via the Heavenly Gondola in the Heavenly Village for the remainder of the season and Stagecoach Express through Sunday, April 5.

All mountain operations on the California side will close March 30, a week ahead of schedule. The resort will operate 11 lifts, accessing 27 trails. Mountain Operations staff continue to closely monitor and assess conditions daily. At this time the resort is still planning on closing on April 19.

Sierra-at-Tahoe latest resort to close due to drought

Sierra-at-Tahoe is the latest Lake Tahoe area ski resort to announce that it will suspend operations, beginning Monday, because of the lack of snow brought on by the ongoing drought in the West.
