Mother Nature almost always has something wacky in store for Northern Nevada over Memorial Day weekend. Rain or shine (or unexpected blizzard) there is something fun to be found in Carson City. Be ready for anything with this sneak peak of this weekend’s activities. FRIDAY:

Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

What to do on a Wednesday? The tiny little town of Silver City on the way to Virginia City has an amazing arts community: resident artist Scott MacLeod has his final sculpture workshop this afternoon: the found object ship he’s building is incredible. Feed your soul and your belly with music and great food at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or Living the Good Life. Sing your heart out with J and M Productions at Crossroads Lounge’s karaoke night. Let some classic cinema into your life with a big screen viewing of ‘On the Waterfront’ at the Galaxy Theater.

Are you ready for Monday? Grab the kids and hit the lanes for some Family Day bowling at Carson Lanes. Walking with ponies at the Littlest Things if fun for all ages. El Charro Avita is the place to be tonight; High Sierra Swing Dance Club hosts their weekly ‘night out,’ and will teach you something new before the open dancing begins. Downtown may be dusty, but the businesses along Carson Street still need our love. Check out karaoke at the Firkin and Fox, and don’t forget to peruse their new menu that debuts today.

MONDAY:

Into every life a little rain must fall, and we just got plenty. The tulips and lilac blooming around town will be pleased. Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Hit the Carson Mall for Cowgirls and Lipstick or learn about rare coins at the Nevada State Museum. Meet author Joe Crowley at Browsers' Corner Book Store or read to therapy dogs at the Carson City Library. The new United Federal Credit Union is offering up free Dunkin Donuts this morning as part of their weeklong Grand Opening Celebration. Take a walk with the furry friends at the Littlest Things: ponies and pooches need exercise, too. Carson Cigar Company is the place for laughs: Heads Up is today’s choice for their new game night. Join J and M Productions at the Firkin and Fox. These boys will be bringing over 60,000 songs to choose from for all your karaoke desires.

Hello, Carson City. Don’t let the fact that it’s Monday get you down, there are still fun ways to kick off the work week. The Firkin and Fox hosts karaoke tonight; just remember to use the east or south entrances while construction continues on their new patio. Go searching for ghosts at the Gold Hill Hotel. Get your boogie on with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club at El Charro Avita. Their Spring Ball, Dinner, and Dance is this coming Saturday, and you can go here for ticket information.

Don’t delay grabbing tickets for the Carson High Father-Daughter dance: it’s this Friday. All day long, a fundraiser for Maya Morrison is happening at Firkin and Fox, but head over between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to take advantage of their very first Whiskey Wednesday.

Monday has returned, the kids head back to school, and the weather is gorgeous. Add a dose of beautiful to your day with a visit to an art Gallery. You’ll find a new exhibit in the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College. Carson City officials will be on hand today at the Community Center to answer questions and explain what is on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. While you’re there, take a good gander at the Great Basin Native Artists show on display in the Sierra Room.

Ray Bonneville, a New Orleans-influenced guitarist/songwriter, will perform in Silver City on Sunday as part of a benefit for the Silver City School House.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Agencies and organizations have teamed to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the state and encourage both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.
