Storm brings much-needed snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts, more on the way

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts report anywhere from 8 to 24 inches of new snow from the first wave of storms to hit the Sierra Friday and Saturday. Another storm is expected to arrive late Sunday.

Sierra-at-Tahoe reports 10 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. Heavenly received anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow overnight allowing them to open two new runs, High Five and Double Down.

Maddie Bowman wins third straight gold medal at Aspen X Games

South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman won her third straight gold medal Wednesday in the 2015 Women's Ski SuperPipe final at the X Games in Aspen.

She started off day one of the annual three day event with solid runs of 85.00, 78.00 and 85.66. The silver went to Ayana Onozuka (83.33) and a bronze to Brita Sigourney (78.66).

Bowman, who grew up on the slopes of Sierra-at-Tahoe, tied the late Sarah Burke's three straight X Game golds.

Sierra-at-Tahoe opens for the 2014-2015 winter season

With Thursday's storm that left more than 15 inches of fresh snow above Lake Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort opened Friday for the 2014-15 winter season. As early season conditions still exist, the resort will operate limited terrain accessed by the Grandview Express and Easy Rider Express.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber announces 2014 Blue Ribbon Award winners

Thursday night’s 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards was the largest yet with over 300 guests in attendance as individuals and businesses were recognized for their exemplary services, products and programs in the South Shore community. Produced by the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce, also known as TahoeChamber, this prestigious awards program solicited nominations for six categories and eight total awards.

Over 175 nominations were received and 95 of those nominated joined their peers at the Nov. 13 awards ceremony at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is taking it to the court Nov. 13, 2014 for the 3rd Annual Sierra Snowball Fight: A Dodgeball Tournament at Steamers Bar and Grill in South Lake Tahoe. Tahoe South tunes up for winter with epic $100 million resort-to-recreation renaissance

With more than $100 million in revitalization efforts this year, a mountain of changes are underway at Tahoe South, the “No. 1 Ski Destination” (USA Today 2014), providing more upscale lodging, entertainment, shopping, skiing and outdoor recreation for the 2014-15 winter season.

The resort-to-recreation renaissance includes the planned winter opening of the $60 million remodel of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, $24 million remodel of MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, $3 million at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel and $15 million for the Château shopping center across from Heavenly Village.

The nomination period for the 2014 Blue Ribbon Awards ended on Friday, Oct. 10. South Lake Tahoe Olympic 'Golden Girls' greeted with hearty welcome home celebration

Back on home turf, Maddie Bowman, Jamie Anderson and Hannah Teter from South Lake Tahoe spent Saturday doing everything from autographing hundreds of posters to standing in front of thousands of cheering fans.

The "Golden Girls" are all glad to be home after the whirlwind they've been on since the 2014 Olympic Games. The celebration and parade held in South Lake Tahoe, Meyers and Sierra-at-Tahoe, their home ski resort, was the first time the three Olympians had been together since Sochi.

Welcome home bash March 15 for South Lake Tahoe's three Olympians

South Lake Tahoe, the tight-knit ski community big on Olympic athletes will honor its three USA team members in a city-wide celebration, Saturday, March 15.

Jamie Anderson, Maddie Bowman, who won gold for snowboarding slopestyle and freeskiing halfpipe respectively, and Hannah Teter who placed fourth in snowboarding halfpipe, will be lauded at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.

Maddie Bowman of South Lake Tahoe wins Olympic gold at Sochi

South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman won gold today in Sochi. She went into the Olympic Freeskiing Halfpipe finals sitting comfortably in third, led all women with an 89 in the finals.

Marie Martinod of France won silver and Ayana Onozuka of Japan won the bronze.

The South Tahoe High graduate, who won the last two XGames in the event, is competing in her first Olympics at age 20. She is now the first woman to ever win a gold medal in the inaugural Olympic Ski Halfpipe.

Sierra Resort at Lake Tahoe to open Friday

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will open Friday for the 2013-14 season with early season conditions and very limited terrain. Sierra Resort will run the Easy Rider Express chairlift accessing the skiers and snowboarders right half of Broadway trail.

This is a green run and will have small to medium rail features, giving guests a chance to get their park legs back underneath them. Forecasts show possible snow showers throughout the weekend and into next week for Lake Tahoe, potentially allowing Sierra Resort to open more trails conditions pending.

Lake Tahoe ski resorts rejoice with first significant snow of the season

The season's first significant snowfall covered the Sierra Monday with nearly a foot of powder at Lake Tahoe area resorts and 3-5 inches at lake level.

Anticipation for additional snowfall along with summer investments pays winter dividends at Tahoe South this season. Millions of capital expenditures at the three area ski resorts this year will complement revitalization efforts throughout town to create new options on where to stay, play and dine during the 2013-14 season.

Sierra Resort at Lake Tahoe hosts Nov. 2 job fair for upcoming ski and snowboard seasonal employment

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will host a job fair Nov. 2 to hire seasonal positions for the coming winter season. The fair will be held at the Sierra Resort base lodge near South Lake Tahoe, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Positions range from full-time November through April to Weekends and Holidays only. Department teams will interview and hire seasonal workers with positions in the areas of Lift Operations, Retail, Food and Beverage, Adult Ski and Snowboard School, Wild Mountain Children’s Center, Blizzard Mountain, Guest Services, Parking, Rental and Repair Services and Ticket Administration.

Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort near South Lake Tahoe has been ranked among the best mountains in North America for 2014 by TransWorld SNOWboarding magazine.

Considered as one of the top magazines in the industry, the publication has been ranking the best resorts in North America for more than a decade. The resort poll ranks mountains based on mountain features such as parks and halfpipe, terrain, and other areas including vibe, snowfall, lodging, value, and food. Each year TransWorld readers are polled to rank their three favorite resorts based on their overall experience.

Weather conference at Lake Tahoe to feature Nobel Prize team winner

Chris Field, a 2007 Nobel Prize team winner and lead author of the study on the effects of global climate change will be the keynote speaker at Lake Tahoe South's Operation Sierra Storm Meteorologist Conference, Jan 10.

Field, was the Co-Chair for Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which shared the 2007 Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore. He’s the director of the Department of Global Ecology, Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University and a 2009 Heinz Award recipient, recognizing extraordinary environmental achievement.

Sierra Resort at Lake Tahoe opens top to bottom Saturday

With several early-season Lake Tahoe snowfalls, including 24 inches in the past two days, and plenty of cold weather days and nights, Sierra-at-Tahoe resort will open its mountain from top to bottom including the West Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 15.

West Bowl offers long cruisers and intermediate to advanced runs, along with unbeatable views of Pyramid Peak and Desolation Wilderness. Beginners to experts now have the opportunity to enjoy over 2,212 feet of vertical terrain, three terrain parks, and lessons for all ages and ability levels.

More than 3.5 feet of new snow at Lake Tahoe ski resorts

It might have been raining across much of Northern California, but last week’s storm brought snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts – more than 3.5 feet of the white stuff, making for a great ski weekend.

“You just never know how these storms are going to play out,” said Chief Marketing Officer Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association. “But Mother Nature cooperated and we’ve got new snow on the mountains.”

New adventure events complement Lake Tahoe South summer line-up

Lake Tahoe South steps into high endurance overdrive this summer with two new outdoor adventure events that celebrate speed, agility and skill — one with feet to the ground and the other rubber to the road.

Sierra Recon, a high-energy, multi-distance obstacle race screaming the amped premise, “Everyone loves carnage” is set for July 14 at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, while the Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride and Rendezvous celebrates the freedom of the wide open road, Aug. 23-26.

Mother Nature and the lucky Leprechaun found powder at the end of the rainbow with a late season storm that dropped 5-9 feet of new snow at Tahoe South resorts this past weekend, which will provide great spring skiing conditions through Easter and beyond. Forecasts predict sunny skies throughout the week.
