The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women Capital Branch, and PFLAG Carson Region, will present a series of election forums on Oct. 11, 12 and 18.

You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

Sierra Nevada Forums, Partnership Carson City and Nevada Juvenile Justice will host a lecture Thursday in Carson City on the brain/body connection by a consultant for the Navy SEALS and the International Olympic Committee.

John Underwood, director and founder of Pure Performance, is the Human Performance Consultant for the U.S. Navy SEALS, and presented at numerous military bases.

I love August in Carson City and it’s because of Jazz and Beyond. Music everywhere. The Tahoe Ridge Winery is hosting Jazz Van Gogh, a guitar and flute duo. You’ll enjoy some time in the evening sun at the Comma Coffee Courtyard with Brent Johnson and The Call Up listening to some bluesy roots rock. You won’t want to miss Carl Sonny Leland at the Performance Hall of the Brewery Arts Center. The boogie-woogie hall of famer will show you what fun can be had with a piano. On Thursday, June 18, Partnership Carson City and Sierra Nevada Forums will host a guest speaker, Dr. Mel Pohl, who will discuss “Medications, Addiction and Pain Management.” 

The public forum begins at 6 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admittance is free but donations are accepted. The location is the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 449 W. King St., Carson City. On Friday, June 19, Dr. Pohl will make a second presentation at noon in Carson City specifically for criminal-justice professionals. For more information on either session, call Kathy Bartosz, 775-841-4730.

Carson City has some great lectures going on today. Sierra Nevada Forums is presenting ‘Lions and Tracking and Bears, OH MY’ about the incredible animals in our foothills. ‘A Short History of Virginia City’ is to be found at the Nevada State Museum, followed by a book signing by Authors Ron and Susan James.

Sierra Nevada Forums brings 'Lions, Tracking, and Bears, OH MY: Amazing Creatures in Carson’s Backyard' to the Plaza Event Center, 211 E. Ninth St., Carson City, on Thursday, Jan. 21. Come join in the presentations by Dr. Alyson Andreasen and Carl Lackey as they discuss the behaviors of mountain lions and bears in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The forum begins promptly at 6 p.m. This is a free event, however, donations are always appreciated.
