Judge Kristin N. Luis was appointed Juvenile Court Special Master for the First Judicial District Court in October 2010, to replace David I. Nielsen who retired from the position in November 2010. Kristin was a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and Gonzaga University, School of Law.

Former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira dies at 79

UPDATE: A celebration of life for former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira will be Friday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 North Lompa Lane in Carson City. Teixeira died June 5, 2014. He was 79.
A reception will follow at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive in Carson City.

The issue will be Question 3 in Nevada's November general-election ballot. If it is approved by a majority of voters, the tax would impose a 2 percent tax on a business' margins after allowable deductions are taken. Only businesses that gross $1 million annually or more will be subject to the tax.

Carson City to fire up drug incinerator this month

The Carson City Sheriff's Office plans on our first firing of the Carson City drug incinerator on August 22 at 1:30 in the afternoon at the city corporate yard. We are awaiting our final EPA authorization, but believe it will be delivered well before the planned date. Also now up and running is our public drug drop off box at the Front Desk Lobby of the Sheriff's Office sponsored directly by Partnership Carson City.

Tune in for another edition of Capital Crossfire Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Access Carson City Television channels 210 and 226. Hosts Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer welcome guests Joe McCarthy of the Comstock Residents Association and John Hadder of Great Basin Resource Watch. The discussion and debate is mining on the Comstock.

Get Ready for Bike Month

Next month is Bike Month and there are plenty of activities planned in Carson City. We kick off on April 24 with Nevada Moves Day at the State Legislature.
Muscle Powered is organizing exhibits in the front foyer of the legislative building highlighting Nevada groups working for better walking and biking. Participants include the Reno Bike Project, Safe Routes to Schools, the Carson Valley Trails Association and more.

New video documentary highlights FISH fundraising banquet

UPDATED: With the theme "Opening Your Heart Is The Key To Opening Doors" more than 150 attended a banquet for Friends in Helping Service, better known as FISH, on Thursday at the Carson Nugget. Along with dinner, wine and a silent auction, guests were treated to a video documentary that highlights the Carson City nonprofit agency which has provided food and shelter to those in need for 34 years.

Honorees at the event were State Senator Debbie Smith and former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean.

Carson City nonprofit that helps poor hosts major fundraiser at Nugget Thursday; tickets available

Having fed and provided shelter for the poor and indigent for more than 30 years, the Carson City nonprofit agency FISH is asking Carson City residents, public officials and private citizens to a special dinner on Thursday, March 14.

Carson City's nonprofit agency that helps feed and provide shelter to those in need — FISH — will host its annual “Have A Heart” Banquet on Thursday, March 14. The Banquet will be at the Carson Nugget with cocktails and silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 6:15 p.m. Ninety-five percent of FISH’s funding comes from local donations and the Have A Heart Banquet is an important part of our fundraising effort.

Final results for Carson City primary election

Final results are in for Carson City races.

Brad Bonkowski and Dennis Johnson will face off in November for the Carson City Supervisor Ward 2 seat being vacated by Shelly Aldean. Bonkowski garnered one-third of the vote in the four-way race.

Current Ward 4 Supervisor Molly Walt pulled in 40 percent of the vote and will match up with challenger Jim Shirk in November.

Assemblyman Pete Livermore easily won the Republican primary to keep his seat, and will face off with Democrat Rich Dunn in the general election.
