Judge Kristin N. Luis was appointed Juvenile Court Special Master for the First Judicial District Court in October 2010, to replace David I. Nielsen who retired from the position in November 2010. Kristin was a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and Gonzaga University, School of Law.

This week's Capital Crossfire is a discussion of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Hosts Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean interview two people familiar with the affliction.

Guests are Former Nevada Army Guard Capt. Liz Hansen, a nurse who served in Afghanistan and advocate for returning veterans with combat related PTSD, and Boone Cutler, an author and Veterans' Rights leader that has become the first nationally recognized on-air personality. He hosts "Tipping Point with Boone Cutler" that airs Saturday mornings on Fox News Radio.

UPDATE: A celebration of life for former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira will be Friday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 North Lompa Lane in Carson City. Teixeira died June 5, 2014. He was 79.
A reception will follow at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive in Carson City.

Join Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean on Capital Crossfire with guests Jeff Fontaine and Demar Dahl as they discuss the effort to persuade the federal government to relinquish its control over millions of acres of land in the western United States.

Capital Crossfire takes on the Margins Tax this week as Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean speak with guest Karen Griffin with Faiss Foley Warren, a Las Vegas public relations firm that specializes in government relations.
The three discuss the Nevada Margins Tax Initiative and its predicted impacts on business, education and future economic growth.

The issue will be Question 3 in Nevada's November general-election ballot. If it is approved by a majority of voters, the tax would impose a 2 percent tax on a business' margins after allowable deductions are taken. Only businesses that gross $1 million annually or more will be subject to the tax.

The latest edition of Capital Crossfire explores drones and their future in Nevada. Join Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean with guests Steve Tackes, a senior partner of Kaempfer Crowell Law and Karl Hutter, COO of Click Bond, a local manufacturing company in Carson City as they discuss new developments in the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (“Drones”) and the regulatory challenges associated with their use.

In the second season of Capital Crossfire, Karl Neathammer and Shelly Aldean speak with Gerald Gardner, chief of staff to Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Robin Reedy, chief of staff to former Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons. They describe the multitude of roles in their positions as the governor’s “go to” person.

On recess from Washington and now fully engaged at home in Northern Nevada, Congressman Mark Amodei appeared before a packed house at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce breakfast on Thursday.

Amodei spoke to issues regarding the national budget, healthcare and immigration reform at the Silver Oak Golf and Event Center.

The first Capital CrossFire aired Sunday in Carson City. Hosted by Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer, the topic was the 2013 Nevada Legislature with guests Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and Nevada Press Association's Barry Smith.

After a 10-year hiatus Capital Crossfire — a news, information and interview program about Nevada and Carson City politics — returns Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. on public access television.

With political flame throwing at an all-time high, there has indeed been something missing from the Carson City air waves lately.

Sure, civility doesn't make the headlines these days, but what happens when two people can disagree, throw in some hilarious zingers at themselves and each other and still remain long-standing friends when the studio lights go dim? 

Welcome to Capital CrossFire 2.0., a program that will return to the Carson City airwaves after a 10-year hiatus.

Next month is Bike Month and there are plenty of activities planned in Carson City. We kick off on April 24 with Nevada Moves Day at the State Legislature.
Muscle Powered is organizing exhibits in the front foyer of the legislative building highlighting Nevada groups working for better walking and biking. Participants include the Reno Bike Project, Safe Routes to Schools, the Carson Valley Trails Association and more.

UPDATED: With the theme "Opening Your Heart Is The Key To Opening Doors" more than 150 attended a banquet for Friends in Helping Service, better known as FISH, on Thursday at the Carson Nugget. Along with dinner, wine and a silent auction, guests were treated to a video documentary that highlights the Carson City nonprofit agency which has provided food and shelter to those in need for 34 years.

Honorees at the event were State Senator Debbie Smith and former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean.

Having fed and provided shelter for the poor and indigent for more than 30 years, the Carson City nonprofit agency FISH is asking Carson City residents, public officials and private citizens to a special dinner on Thursday, March 14.

Carson City's nonprofit agency that helps feed and provide shelter to those in need — FISH — will host its annual “Have A Heart” Banquet on Thursday, March 14. The Banquet will be at the Carson Nugget with cocktails and silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner served at 6:15 p.m. Ninety-five percent of FISH’s funding comes from local donations and the Have A Heart Banquet is an important part of our fundraising effort.

Final results are in for Carson City races.

Brad Bonkowski and Dennis Johnson will face off in November for the Carson City Supervisor Ward 2 seat being vacated by Shelly Aldean. Bonkowski garnered one-third of the vote in the four-way race.

Current Ward 4 Supervisor Molly Walt pulled in 40 percent of the vote and will match up with challenger Jim Shirk in November.

Assemblyman Pete Livermore easily won the Republican primary to keep his seat, and will face off with Democrat Rich Dunn in the general election.
