Executives from P3 Development were introduced to the members of the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Advisory Committee tonight, saying they were looking forward to working as partners with Carson City and the Nugget.

The developer chosen for the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Project will be on hand tonight to answer questions about the project.

Rick Oshinski, CEO of Sacramento-based P3 Development, will appear before the Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee tonight in the Community Center's Sierra Room.

Carson Now plans to show live video of the meeting, as well as hosting a discussion forum.

Many questions are sure to arise, concerning the details on the project and its scope, as well as the developer and how the company was chosen.

As I've been talking to people about this project, I've collected a number of questions, that I put together below.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors yesterday voted to proceed with investigating the lease or purchase of the Fireside building (or another similar structure) for the purpose of creating a business resource center. (You can replay the live blog of the meeting here.)

The Nevada Department of Transportation has received an award for archeological preservation of the Old Stewart Indian Cemetery. 
An Exemplary Human Environment Initiative award to NDOT was presented by the Federal Highway Administration for partnering efforts to enhance and preserve the historic cemetery as part of the Carson City Freeway project.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons is touting his successes in implementing recommendations from his SAGE Commission on ways to improve efficiencies and save money in state government, but many of the proposals remain in progress or will require action by the 2011 Legislature.

CARSON CITY — An outbreak of Whooping Cough that recently took the lives of two California infants, both under the age of three months, should serve as a call to action, Carson City health officials said.

An alarming 219 cases of pertussis have been recorded in California so far this year, up dramatically from 118 cases during the same time frame last year.

CARSON CITY — State budget problems have forced the Nevada Department of Wildlife to temporarily suspend its boat title and registration services offered at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Carson City.

CARSON CITY — An evacuation and sheltering exercise for the residents of the Old Clear Creek Road subdivision will be from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2, Carson City Fire Department officials announced today.

The evacuation drill in the southwest part of Carson City is being carried out in conjunction with Nevada’s 5th Annual Wildfire Awareness Week. The intention is to remind residents and homeowners that the area is within a wildland fire environment and therefore all are encouraged to protect their homes and community from embers that can attack dry brush and trees during a wildfire.

The Carson City Shade Tree Council will be hosting its annual Arbor Day Celebration on April 30, 2010. The celebration will be held in the park across from the State Library on the corner of Stewart and Musser Streets and will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last an hour.

RENO – The three Republican candidates vying to become the next governor of Nevada engaged in a spirited discussion Friday on issues ranging from taxes and public education to the future of Yucca Mountain.

CARSON CITY – Two of the four Republican candidates seeking to replace Sen. Randolph Townsend in state Senate District 4 in Washoe County attacked one another’s records in a debate televised today on the Nevada NewsMakers program.
Assemblyman Ty Cobb said one of his opponents, Ben Kieckhefer, has called for “revenue enhancements” which Cobb said is support for a tax increase. Kieckhefer denied the charge.

The fate of Yucca Mountain, and its effect on Nevada as a whole and Nye County in particular, were discussed in a television interview yesterday by Nye County Commissioner Gary Hollis and Nye County Nuclear Waste Repository consultant Michael Voegele.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence, in conjunction with other agencies, will be placing pinwheels on the legislative lawn on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 1:00 pm . This is part of Prevent Child Abuse Nevada’s statewide, “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign. The Pinwheels will remain in place for the following week.

The recently-passed health insurance reform bill will lead to major changes for Nevada’s Medicaid program.

To further demonstrate the dire budget situation Carson City City Hall is in, City Supervisors Thursday agreed to set up a program to pay "less important" city workers to quit. Payments include money, on their behalf, to the Public Employees Retirement System to help departing workers with their retirement situation.
