Carson City Health and Human Service is reporting 6 new cases and 19 recoveries in the Quad-County region on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. This brings the total number of cases to 1,240, with 1,102 recoveries and 16 deaths, 122 cases remain active.

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting an additional death due to COVID-19. The individual was a male Lyon County resident in his 80’s with underlying conditions. CCHHS is also reporting eight new cases and six additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region.

Sondra Cosgrove, President of the League of Women Voters of Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. Her presentation, to be teleconferenced via Zoom from Las Vegas, will spotlight the five questions on the November ballot in terms of their history and substance as well as the reasoning behind the League's positions for or against passage.

CVS Health today announced plans to add more than 2,000 new COVID-19 drive-thru test sites at select CVS Pharmacy locations across the country to support the company’s ongoing efforts to increase access to testing and help slow the spread of the virus.

Due to the continued and forecasted very unhealthy air quality, all Carson City School District hybrid students will be on a full-remote learning day Friday, Sept. 18, 2020. Students will not attend classes in-person on campus. Staff will receive specific instructions from their site administrator.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 that there are 23 new cases and 10 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,217, with 1,072 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 130 cases remain active.

Carson City schools are open today, Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 for hybrid learning. The forecast indicates the air quality should improve throughout the day. Students and staff should report to school as usual for in-person learning for the hybrid model. Many thanks to parents and families for their continued effort transporting their children to and from school while our bus services remain halted until Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 that there are nine new cases and six additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,194, with 1,062 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 117 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board of Directors on Wednesday approved abatements for Google (Design, LLC) in Storey County and Lithium Nevada Corp. that will result in $1.1 billion in investments and the creation of 163 permanent jobs and 5,300 construction jobs.

CARSON CITY — While employment in Nevada realized an increase over the month of 6,500 jobs, the state has seen a decrease of 133,600 jobs since August 2019, for an annual growth rate of -9.4 percent, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s August 2020 economic report.

The Nevada Department of Education announced Tuesday 25 grant awards totaling $11,075,467 in Elementary and Secondary School Relief funding available through the federal Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security CARES Act.

CARSON CITY — To assist with disaster relief during this devastating fire season, Greater Nevada Credit Union has donated $30,000 to three different credit unions coordinating relief efforts in California and Oregon. Rogue Credit Union Foundation in Medford, Ore.; Redwood Credit Union Community Fund in Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Sierra Central Credit Union in Yuba City, Calif. will each receive $10,000 to assist with ongoing relief efforts.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020 that there are 31 new cases and eight additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,185, with 1,056 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 114 cases remain active.

Soroptimist International of Carson City invites the public to join our 12 noon, Sept. 23 program meeting via Zoom to hear about a new non-profit in town. Under the non-profit umbrella of The American Tea Mistresses International, fundraising is underway to create Lighthouse Lodge Re-Entry Services for non-violent offenders needing assistance with reintegration into our community after being released from the Carson City Jail or the Nevada State Prison.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Sept. 14 that there are 10 new cases and 16 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,154, with 1,048 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 91 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY — Children who would have received free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program have received a one-time refund for the cost of school lunches that were missed this spring due to COVID-related school closures.

Carson City Health and Human Services will be combining drive-thru COVID-19 testing and flu vaccination events for Quad County residents in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. Residents can choose to receive a flu vaccine and/or a COVID-19 test at each event from the comfort of their vehicle. No appointments or reservations needed.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak signed an emergency regulation on Monday to support widespread immunization efforts to help the State prepare for a potential COVID-19 vaccine.

DeBug Computer is hosting its annual Community Shredding Day event on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon in Carson City and 1 to 3 p.m. in Minden. The event is free of charge and is designed to help protect against identity theft by shredding sensitive documents or obsolete computers and technology.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting ten new cases and seven additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,131, with 1,009 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 107 cases remain active.

The Carson City School District reported an additional three positive COVID-19 cases. Two of the persons work in the transportation department with a connection to the previously reported case.

Those employees previously identified will continue to quarantine for the recommended isolation period, and transportation services will resume as soon as possible (at the earliest, Sept. 22, but possibly longer if more employees test positive).

The third confirmed case is an individual at Carson High School.

Local elections — where politics matters the most of all. While the race for president, and maybe certain races in the Senate and House, dominate the news, the fact is that all politics is local and that your local government is the one that affects your life the most. It’s local government that arranges for your basic services, such as water and sewer, trash, and all the utilities.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday.
