Nevada Leaders Oppose Question 2:

“As Governor and a former Federal Judge, I have seen first-hand the negative effects that marijuana for recreational purposes can have on our state and our communities. Proponents of this measure claim it will help education, it will not. What it will do is create health and safety problems that Nevada cannot afford. Finally. A bipartisan all out political campaign is launched against the pot industry written and financed Question 2 to legalize commercial marijuana in Nevada.

Strong statements of opposition to Q2 were made by Governor Brian Sandoval, Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison, Attorney General Adam Laxalt, Senator Dean Heller and 3 members of Nevada's House delegation.

U.S. Senator Dean Heller will be hosting the Annual Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget in Carson City for a second time, during the Nevada Day Parade.

The Annual Chili Feed, featuring the Carson Nugget’s famous chili, began in 1982 and has become a Nevada Day Tradition. It was hosted by Former, US Senator Richard Bryan for the first 19 years and was then passed on to Former, Lieutenant Governor, Brian Krolicki before Heller took over last year.

The Lake Tahoe Restoration Act of 2015, a bipartisan bill sponsored by Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on Wednesday. The legislation, created alongside senators Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Harry Reid, D-Nevada and Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., provides federal, state, and local partners important tools to reduce wildfire threats, improve water clarity, jumpstart innovative infrastructure projects, and combat invasive species.

History shows time and time again our greatest accomplishments at Lake Tahoe are achieved when people work together. In the past, Tahoe was known as a place where unproductive interactions between stakeholders led to a stunning decay in our environment and our economic vitality, creating a region that seemed frozen in time.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency on Thursday voiced its strong support for legislation to reauthorize the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act that has been introduced in Congress by Tahoe’s Senate delegation.

Sponsored by U.S. Senator Dean Heller, R-Nevada, along with Harry Reid, D-Nevada, Dianne Feinstein D-California, and Barbara Boxer, D-California, the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act would authorize up to $415 million in federal funding over 10 years to help continue critical environmental restoration work at Lake Tahoe.

Gov. Brian Sandoval said today that he's not going to run for Nevada's open U.S. Senate seat in 2016 that is being vacated by Nevada Sen. Harry Reid. His statement is below:

"In 1984, Nevada Senator Paul Laxalt gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to serve as a legislative intern in his office in Washington, D.C. Coming from humble beginnings, the experience changed my life and charted me on a path of public service. It never occurred to me then that I would someday have an opportunity to be a candidate for the United States Senate.

Organized by Zed, it included prayers by Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i, etc., religious leaders.

Hansen was born in Reno, Nevada. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is married to Alexis with 8 children. He works as a plumbing contractor. He was a talk radio host on station KKOH in Reno for five years as well. He was fired due to outrage over comments he made to the effect that the United States should not have such a strong relationship with Israel.[1]

Carson City government officials on Thursday recognized Western Nevada College’s nationally known humanities exhibition on the costs of war, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War,” Thursday with a proclamation of appreciation and honor.

Sunday evening, Feb. 16th, the Douglas County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) held their annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner. This year's theme was Nevada's Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Nevada's admission to the Union. The event--with the largest attendance in many years--was a sellout. Nevada Senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller jointly released a discussion draft Friday of the Nevada Sagebrush Landscape Conservation and Economic Development Act. The Tea Party Republicans claim President Obama has not repaired the Bush/Republican mistakes fast enough. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi passed several job bills out of the House. Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell filibustered and stopped those job bills.
In 2010 the Tea Party Republicans ran on "jobs, jobs, jobs" and, oh yes, hate President Obama. Please note: Not one job bill was offered by Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner and the Tea Party Republicans. Further, they killed all job bills from President Obama.

CARSON CITY – U.S. Sen. Dean Heller today said online gaming legislation critical to the future of Nevada’s economy should be removed from the world of politics so partisan fights don’t “poison the water” for the bill’s future in Congress.

Heller, interviewed on the Nevada NewsMakers television program, said the legislation is too important to be subjected to political fights between himself and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid between now and the Nov. 6 general election.

In a milestone for the organization, Amy R. Berry was appointed to the new position of CEO of the Tahoe Fund on Wednesday. The official announcement is a major shift forward for the organization and its mission to raise private and public funding for environmental projects in Lake Tahoe.
