U.S. Naval Sea Cadet youth to hold car wash fundraiser Saturday in Dayton

Carson City Division, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is having a Car Wash Fundraiser in Dayton, Nev. at the Valero, 215 US-50 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17.

Carson City Memorial Day Service ceremony photos

Paying tribute to those who have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, a Memorial Day ceremony was held at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Monday afternoon. The ceremony was hosted by the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation.

Memorial Day Service from noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery

UPDATE: Organizers say Monday’s program may extend beyond 2 p.m. as guest speakers will be traveling to Carson City from other northern Nevada services.

The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation is hosting a Memorial Day Service today, noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

Among the order of service was a noon Raising of the Colors. The service will feature a presentation of the Colors by the Carson City Division of US Naval Sea Cadets, the National Anthem, Invocation. At around 1 p.m. there will be the introduction of speakers, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen and U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei followed by A Memorial Day Tribute by the High Desert Post 56 All Veteran Honor Guard, closing remarks and a Benediction.

Family, friends and fellow veterans gathered this Memorial Day at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City to pay respect by honoring buried veterans and fallen military.

Wreaths Across America came to Carson City's Lone Mountain Cemetery Saturday morning thanks to the Carson City Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol who organized the event locally.

Updated Nevada Day Parade line up list and map

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. Above is the line-up map, and the list is below:

Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association - Sierra Tahoe Unit #137 Present Sea Cadets with Check

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association, Sierra-Tahoe Unit #137 presented a check to the Carson City Sea Cadets in the amount of $350 to Catheryne Sainz, Commanding Officer, USNCCSC. The money was donated throughout the year by the membership to their President’s Project, Jan Solberg, Jr. Past President and Brenda Horton, President.

Veterans honored at Carson Middle School

Carson Middle School students, teachers and staff honored local veterans Thursday.

The event began with polite and enthusiastic student greeters who met guests and escorted them into the school gym for a reception of tasty treats and a Patriotic program. Veterans and guests were welcomed by Carson Middle School Choir Director Briana Valley and the CMS program emcees Melanie Proctor and Makayl Holloway.

Veterans Donate to Carson City Library

Representatives from the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson City Sea Cadets and U.S. Navy League gathered at the Carson City Library Friday to donate a Bluejackets Manual and a 1942-1943 USS Nevada Cruise Book. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and Library Director Sara Jones were on hand for the event.

Capital City Residents, State And Local Officials, Gather To Commemorate 9-11

CARSON CITY – Residents of this capital city, hit with tragedy earlier in the week with the shooting deaths of four people at a local restaurant, gathered at two somber ceremonies today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
About 300 people gathered at Mills Park for the Patriot’s Day – 9-11 Remembrance sponsored by the Capital Baptist Church.
