Here is the Carson City road report for the period of Monday, June 21 to Sunday, June 27:
The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue fog sealing sections of roadway in the area. The following roadways will have lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting:
— Northbound Carson City Freeway from US 50 to East Lake Boulevard — Monday and Tuesday

Legislators, Educators Disagree on Cause of Empowerment Schools’ Success

Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/08/2010 - 5:41pmWith less than two hours to go before Carson City polls close, Clerk/Recorder Alan Glover reports a busy primary day with a voter turnout, when all is said and done, that may be around 45 percent.
"It's going real well. The turnout is much better than we expected," Glover said, adding that early voting and absentee returns should represent about 30 percent of the cast ballots.
The breakdown in turnout seems to be largely Republican, with a 60-40 split, however the race for Carson City sheriff may be bringing out a lot of non-partisans and Democrats, he said.

As if channeling the “Little Engine that Could,” the historic railway started right where it left off last year with overwhelming public support. After a sold-out season in 2009, the V&T has expanded operations to Friday through Sunday rides, now through Oct. 31.
The strong beginning to the V&T’s summer operations has tourism officials hopeful the trend sticks.

Republican candidate for Senate withdraws from Nevada race

Gary Bernstein threw his support Tuesday to John Chachas, a former Wall Street banker who grew up in Ely and returned to Nevada to run for the seat held by Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid. Bernstein was a long shot in the race that drew 12 GOP candidates.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe have experienced an active spring, including one bear breaking into a Carson City garage. The bear was taken down.

Barnett had his second straight game in which he went 3-for-3 as he helped the University of Nevada baseball team (31-19-1) come back for an 8-6 win over UC Davis on Tuesday at Peccole Park. Barnett's 14th home run of the season gave the Wolf Pack that 8-6 lead in the seventh inning.

Carson City Sheriff sued by former deputy for defamation

The plaintiff, Paula Andrews, was the subject of an internal investigation involving falsifying documents and grand larceny in December 2008. According to the lawsuit, the investigation concluded the allegations were unfounded. Nevertheless, the plaintiff was later "constructively discharged."
Amodei Elected Nevada GOP Chairman, Rumors of Challenge by Ricotta Unfounded
Submitted by on Sun, 05/16/2010 - 1:25pmRENO — The Nevada Republican Party elected Mark Amodei its new chairman last night during a special Central Committee meeting at the Sienna Hotel and Casino. Amodei, a former state senator, defeated Clark County Republican Party Political Director David Isbell by a vote of 218 to 54.
After the election, Amodei said he would focus on moving forward and defeating the Democrats in the upcoming elections. To do this, he says, he will focus on communication and collaboration within the party.

Carson City deputies, NHP respond to hit and run on Highway 50
Submitted by editor on Sat, 05/15/2010 - 7:33pmCarson City deputies responded to a hit and run earlier tonight, in which a black BMW X5 was rear-ended, with the driver allegedly speeding away after her airbag deployed.
The suspect apparently hit the BMW near Fairview and Carson Street at about 6:30, and then drove away, darting in and out of traffic.
Two witnesses, each driving separate vehicles, followed the suspect, who was driving a white sedan. The witnesses followed the sedan from Fairview down Saliman to Highway 50, alerting dispatchers of the accident.
Road rage incident lands Carson City man in jail
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/14/2010 - 11:57amA 24-year-old Carson City man faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon in a road rage incident where the victim was allegedly assaulted with a crutch.
On Thursday at about 4 p.m. the suspect, John Delvecchio, was allegedly driving in an aggressive manner in an unregistered Cadillac, tailgating, honking his horn, cursing and attempting to run the victim off the road several times between the Douglas County Sheriff's Office building in Gardnerville and the Carson City limits, according to the arrest report.
