In Nevada, we have two seasons: winter and fire. At the moment, we're right on the cusp of fire season, and our proactive sheep friends from Borda Family Lamb Ranch have risen to the challenge to help preventing fire devastation in Carson City for another year.

Going into the midweek, Wednesday, April 17, 2019, we're looking at a gradual warming trend, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 70. Events and activities are lined up for the day including art workshops, library presentations, live music and more.

Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone. Well the weekend sure went fast as we say goodbye to March. Now we're heading into Monday, April 1, 2019 where pranks, larks and tom foolery are orders of the day. Western Nevada College’s Continuing Education Department is proud to offer Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at its Carson City campus beginning Tuesday, March 26.

This eight-week course uses 30 years of research to help participants develop more capacity to deal with short- and long-term stressors in their lives.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction was developed at the University of Massachusetts by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. With over 30 years of research, this program has proven results.

Within this 8-week course, you will learn tools that will help you approach your life with more composure, energy, understanding and enthusiasm. Through learning mindful meditation techniques, you will develop more capacity for coping with short and long-term stressors in your life.

Recently, Carson City’s department directors gathered for a Leadership Retreat.

Leadership Retreat provides staff the opportunity to discuss departmental challenges, supports an open dialog, identifies the needs of each department and reinforces relationships between City professionals.

According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Tahoe South will host a magnitude of events extending the season from Labor Day into October with entertainment, culinary festivals, music, outdoor recreation, competitions and a lakefront laser show.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College’s Community Education Department is now enrolling students for a variety of fall courses, including old favorites like Clay Club and brand new classes like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Community education classes are open to anyone in the Northern Nevada community and are designed to accommodate a variety of schedules and budgets.

Parent, children, grandparents and more are welcome to create in our historical landmark building with our fantastic instructor, Suellen Turman. Materials and lunch are provided.
