With this proclamation, the governor has perpetrated the most egregious insult of all Nevadans. He has also perpetrated the most egregious assault on fact, law and common sense.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

CARSON CITY — Nevada high school science students showed a 5.09 percent improvement this year over 2017-18 results. Science performance in elementary schools increased over the prior year while middle school performance decreased, according to a highlight summary released Wednesday by the Nevada Department of Education.

Carson City’s Montessori has been educating a portion of the capitol city’s children for over a decade. They quickly outgrew their space, and have been looking to relocate for about 13 years.

Now, an end may be in sight. According to Carson Montessori Executive Director Jessica Daniels, the school has been looking at the vacant Silver State Charter School complex on Fairview since Silver State shut its doors. After funding fell out more than once, they’re at it again, and a tentative offer of over one million dollars has been offered for the space.

The Carson City Airport will once again be hosting its Open House and Fly-In this Saturday, June 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with all proceeds going to benefit the Eagle Valley Children’s Home.

A report released last Friday by the Nevada Department of Education showed that nearly 70 percent of students receiving the Nevada Opportunity Scholarship experienced a positive score change according the report, based on six standardized measurements utilized.

In Nevada, 24.8 percent of the class of 2018 public school students scored 3 or higher on AP exams, which qualifies them to earn college credit, placement, or both at nearly all colleges across the country.

Nationwide, 23.5 percent of the class of 2018 public school students earned 3 or higher, which demonstrates college readiness.

CARSON CITY — More Nevada students who took the Advanced Placement Exam in 2018 showed they are college ready.
“Research shows that students who pass the AP Exam with a 3 or higher not only demonstrate that they are ready for freshman college classes, but that they are also more likely to graduate college in four years,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Superintendent of Public Instruction.

In an effort to showcase the value of coming to school and being on time, Carson Middle School administrators, social workers and safe school professionals have taken a positive approach to motivate students. On Monday, Jan. 8, the first day back from the holidays, students were welcomed by school officials dressed in dinosaur suits holding giant banners and delivering cheers and “High Fives.”

A new semester begins Monday, Jan. 8 for the Carson City School District, which has been adjourned for winter break since Dec. 22.

Sierra Lutheran High School, along with Carson High School and Douglas High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, were fortunate this past week to receive a visit from Flora Savai, a young lady who grew up in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, author Bonnie Boice Nishikawa will share her ‘life experiences’ related to growing up in the Nevada State Children’s Home. Located in Carson City, the facility provided a ‘home’ to hundreds of children, including Ms. Nishikawa and her brother and sister, between 1870 and 1992.
