The Carson City School District still has space available for early learners under the age of 5. Even though the academic school year is well underway, the pre-kindergarten program is still open for families who qualify under the federal household income guidelines.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the entire Carson Tahoe Health system, including the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Carson Tahoe Medical Group, and all other outlying locations, launched Epic — a highly regarded and well-utilized medical records system.

Stacey Giomi, Ward 1 Supervisor, former Fire Chief, and Regional Director of Operations for Rural Programs and Director of Facilities & Emergency Preparedness at Nevada Health Centers, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic Men's Committee's tele-luncheon. Nevada Health Centers is a state-wide organization that provides medical and dental care to over 50,000 low-income, uninsured, underinsured and geographically isolated residents of Nevada. It is the largest community health center in Nevada, with locations in seven different Nevada counties.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, new forms of healthcare technology emerged allowing patients to continue to access care during the crisis. Telehealth skyrocketed in popularity, allowing many people to visit with their provider via a phone call or a video conference appointment.

The Quad-County Incident Management Team, comprised of representatives from Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties, and the Quad-County Multiagency Coordination Group continues to coordinate closely with and support Carson City Health and Human Services in the Quad-County COVID-19 Response.

CARSON CITY — Nevada’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers are offering crisis services and telehealth. CCBHCs focus on person-centered and family-centered outpatient behavioral health services and primary care services for the whole family.

Leaders from Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties, known as the Quad-Counties, continue to coordinate closely with Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS), the local health authority for the Quad-Counties, to monitor and respond to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevada’s physicians and healthcare professionals are on the frontlines of treatment and prevention of COVID-19. In support of Gov. Steve Sisolak and public health officials’ recommendations, the Nevada State Medical Association encourages all Nevada to practice social distancing, use expanded telehealth options to contact medical professionals, continue to avoid emergency rooms unless absolutely necessary and Stay Home For Nevada.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to four.

Now through Dec. 7, seniors in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties can enroll for superior health benefits with Prominence Health Plan’s Medicare Advantage plan.

Connected Horse, a nonprofit organization working with local barns and therapeutic equine centers, is excited to expand its powerful evidence based workshops with horses to benefit people with early stage dementia and their care partners. There are openings for participants in evidenced based, equine guided workshops exploring how activities with horses benefit people with dementia along with their care partners.

Reno’s Renown Medical Center has branched into the capital city with its new Urgent Care, located at 2814 N. Carson Street next to the Eagle Valley Medical Center.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new location Tuesday morning. In addition, according to Mark Beauchamp of Shahren Beauchamp Builders, who were the general contractors on the Urgent Care, a Primary Care Facility will be opening mid-May in South Carson, near Starbucks.

Banner Churchill Community Hospital was one of only four hospitals in Nevada to earn a 4-star rating in quality and safety from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of the federal agency’s annual performance report.

The CMS’s hospital star rating provides patients with the important information they need to compare hospitals and make informed decisions about care. The 4-star rating for Banner Churchill was based on 100 rigorously tested measurements in quality and safety, such as patient experience, timeliness and effectiveness of care, complication rates and other factors.

A 33-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for suspicion of felony grand larceny and child endangerment after shoplifting nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise from a local department store with her four-year-old child in tow.

Sierra Nevada Holistic Services (SNVHS) has been in business for the last 5 years. Until recently, the organization’s primary services were massage, energy work, and aromatherapy. The business owner, Andrea Felesina, has since become a dual board-certified family nurse practitioner. CARSON CITY — USDA Rural Development State Director Phil Cowee announced Tuesday that residents in 15 of Nevada’s rural and frontier counties will gain access to healthcare through recently approved federal broadband grants.

Douglas High School’s athletic department received a pair of orange-clad Automatic External Defibrillator devices from Carson Valley Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

CVMC primary care provider Jim Gocke, APRN, and CVMC Hospital Foundation board member Nita Schwartz, MD, were on hand to present the devices to Douglas High student athletes and athletic department administration.

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15 through Dec. 7) is here and if you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Prescription Drug plan, then you will be familiar with the Annual Notice of Change document (ANOC). It is extremely important to review this document as it will help insure you are getting the most out of your Medicare Advantage Plan. The ANOC was mailed to plan members no later than Oct. 1 and it details any changes in coverage that will take effect in January 2019.

CARSON CITY — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration awarded $2.19 million to the Division of Child and Family Services for the Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program, officials announced Tuesday.
