Hello Carson City as we welcome Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Events and activities abound, from yoga, walks and a bike ride, to art showings and a jewelry making class. There's an exquisite paella and olive oil show at Bleu Café featuring world renown chef Don Pepe, and a viewing of the classic film "High Noon" with the legendary Gary Cooper at the Brewery Arts Center. Be sure to take some time out of your busy day to enjoy the capital city's great indoor and outdoor activities. Here's what's happening.

Heading into the first Monday of June and the capital city couldn't look any brighter. Weather wise it will be a great day for a walk, hike or bike ride with mostly sunny skies and a high near 80. Around town there's art classes, a local talk with Carson City's mayor, dance classes and a workshop at Rustically Divine on getting organized around the home. Enjoy your day and the week ahead.

Carson City was named the first Bee City in Nevada last fall, recognizing the important contributions of bee pollinators. When members of the Carson City Leadership Class of 2019 discovered Carson City had become our nation’s 76th Bee City, nothing could BEE dearer to their hearts.

The Brewery Arts Center is looking to enlist a few great volunteers to help this Saturday, June 1 clean up and beautify the two block campus as we prepare for the Levitt AMP Carson City free summer concert series presented by The Change Companies which begins on June 22 and Wheeled Food Wednesday which begins on June 19.

Is it the middle of the work week already? That's what a 3-day holiday weekend brings. Heading into Wednesday, May 29, 2019, there's a number of events around the Carson City region lined up, including Salsa dancing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a live music show at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City (hosted by the Canvas Cafe) and a live jazz jam at Living the Good Life in Carson City.

Hello Carson City and a warm welcome back from the Memorial Day weekend. Heading into Tuesday, May 28, 2019 there's sunshine in our midst or so says weather forecasters. We're looking at highs in the upper 60s. On tap for the day we have morning and evening walks, a bicycle ride for ladies, an archery shoot at Centennial Park, a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser in Gardnerville to support Special Olympics, a meeting of the Carson City school board and more.

The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2019 poster and program cover art contest is Reta Hanks, a member of the Nevada Artists Association, Capital City Arts Initiative and several other artists organizations in Nevada and California.

Heading into Memorial Day, May 27, 2019, we urge all to take time out of your day to honor those who served and died defending our country. Memorial Day is the day we celebrate those men and women who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. There are events Monday in Carson City at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery and at Lone Mountain Cemetery and in Fernley at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Yes, the Memorial Day holiday is nearly here and we may even get a weather break or four in between expected showers through the weekend, forecasters say. Activities and events to round out this third Thursday of the month include a meet and greet of Carson City Library candidates at Adams Hub for Innovation, a day hike, a bicycle cruise on the west side of the capital city, a Lunch and Learn Workshop for local nonprofit organizations, a chamber luncheon focusing on mental health, a GOP meeting, art showings, live music and more. As we head into Tuesday, May 21, 2019 there seems to be some debate brewing about the weather. Is the persistent series of cold weather systems normal or not? We spoke with a forecaster from the National Weather Service about it and he noted that everyone has an opinion. Some folks swear this happens every Spring, storm after relentless storm through the entire month of May. Some swear the month of May in western Nevada is usually sunny, in the upper 70s to low 80s and comfortable. Whichever you believe, go with it and enjoy. Here's what's ahead Tuesday:

But maybe mother nature is just trying to add a little extra water to the lakes and rivers before shutting down for a hot summer? CARSON CITY, Nev. — Artist Patricia Wallis has a background in plein air and aerial painting, having spent much of her 30-year career in Marin County, Calif.

Moving to Reno, she found a completely new palette of color in the landscape. Another change she made in in the past decade was a decision to work exclusively on copper, which gives the image a unique luminescence not found when working on canvas or board. Oil painting on copper goes back to the 15thcentury although it is rarely used by contemporary artists.

As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. And now with valley rain, wind and Sierra snow on the way, we tip our hat to one Carson Now reader, LaNair, who pledged he wouldn't turn on their heater these next few days because, well, it is May after all. One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Heading into Tuesday we're looking at breezy conditions and sunny skies, with a shift in the weather Wednesday. Another picture-perfect Carson City day awaits as we head into Monday, May 13, 2019. We're looking at mostly sunny skies with daytime highs in the low 80s. And then by midweek, another round of showers looks likely, which will help cool us off. Activities for Monday include art demonstrations and showings, presentations and more. Enjoy.

UPDATE: This event has been canceled due to upcoming storms through the weekend. The following is from the Sheriff's Office: Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the National Weather Service a slight chance of showers and potential for wind is predicted. Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

The weather is changing at Carson High School and so are the types of clothing some students are wearing. CHS Dean Sharon Hallinan sent an email out to all CHS teachers about this weather changing challenge. Hallinan told teachers to “please remind students of the Dress Code; highlight the fact that bare midriffs and holey jeans, which violate the ‘Fingertip Rule’, are not allowed.”
