Carson City Barbell Club, which aims to forage strength in community, is the capital city's first USAW Weightlifting Club. There will be an open house this Thursday, Oct. 19 to go through its programs, tour the gym and answer any questions.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Unless you've lived under a rock the past 5 years, many will know the American Ninja Warrior TV show. Cheering crowds, amazing obstacles and Ninja All-Stars.

Now, we've brought that experience to Carson City with a full time Ninja Gym for ages 6-16. Expert youth motivators acutely teach kids how to defeat obstacles and boost their confidence with each attempt.

The Carson High School Library was packed with students Nov. 1 for a special occasion guest speaker, author and CHS graduate Teri Case. She gave students who attend College Connections some practical and realistic advice on writing applications for both local and national scholarships.

Though no one knows for sure who said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”, CHS teacher and Air Force veteran Tod Jennings, in his respectfully fun and playful manner, challenged CHS teacher and Navy veteran Daniel Ingram to a bet.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. With three local theater groups performing this weekend, you’re sure to find a performance that’s right up your alley. Read on and be prepared to be bombarded with options.

SATURDAY:     

Sometime in the middle of the night, we gained an extra hour. Use those sixty minutes any way you’d like: extra time in bed, Community Yoga at Comma Coffee, or maybe doing something fun with the kids. Head out to Tumbleweeds in Minden for Family Fun and Fit Day and let the kids burn off a week’s worth of Halloween candy. The Nevada Artists Association is hosting a reception for their artists this afternoon. If you haven’t seen the new Nevada Show, it’s the perfect time to check it out and vote for your favorite piece.

SUNDAY:

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

SATURDAY:

Start the Season of Love with a whole month of Share the Love workouts. Bring your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to these awesome, high-energy, Saturday workouts. Children 10 and up are welcome to workout with us. We will provide open gym/childcare for children under 10 for $5 per child, if they are preregistered at least 48 hours ahead of time.

It’s a good weekend to be a kid: the Kerak Shrine Circus is in town! Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.

For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

Free Open gym for the kids 1:00 to 4:00. We will have face painting, local businesses offering information on ways to keep your family fit and healthy, gymnastic demonstrations, amazing raffle prizes, car seat inspections, and so much MORE!!!

Completely FREE to the community is Tumbleweeds Gymnastics annual Family Fun and Fit Day.

We are promoting health and fitness in our area and fighting obesity through gymnastics and Kaia FIT, our women’s fitness program.

Join us at Tumbleweeds for fitness testing for the whole family, open gym, face painting, bounce house and games! Many health professionals from the community will be attending also.
