Cooperative Extension Carson City Office Horticulture Expertise

Wendy Hanson Mazet, whose expertise is in horticulture, arboriculture, noxious weeds, vegetable gardening, and low water use gardening offers her expertise if you have any questions about your garden or landscaping.

If you would like to visit with Wendy or drop off samples she will be in the Carson City Office two days per month. In July it will be July 1 and July 15.

Cooperative Extension in Carson City introduces Office Manager and brings back Horticulture expertise

“Although it has taken longer than anticipated, new and exciting things are starting to happen at the UNR Cooperative Extension Office,” says Lindsay Chichester, Extension Educator.

Bianca Galeano, office manager, was recently hired and comes to the job with a wealth of information, great people skills, and a great can-do attitude.

Capital City Farm Days this Thursday and Friday at Fuji Park

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H presents Capital City Farm Days this Thursday and Friday at Fuji Park in Carson City,

Thirty presenters, including representatives from the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada State Museum, and other local and state agriculture and natural resources organizations, will teach preschool and elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Attendees will include public, private and home-schooled students and their families from Carson City, Storey County, Douglas County and Dayton Valley.

Spring Creek seeding project aims to jumpstart crucial habitat

On a cold and windy morning in November, 45 men and women took to the hills in the Bodie Hills to plant as many sagebrush seedlings as they could in a two-day span. Besides the cold, the work itself was physically demanding as each seedling had to be planted by hand. What makes this story even more interesting is the fact that many of the people on those hills volunteered to be there.

Wicked Weeds of the West

Carson City Library will present Margie Evans, coordinator of the Carson City Weed Coalition through the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, on Wednesday, July 17, at 6 pm, at the BRIC (the Business Resource Innovation Center) 108 E. Proctor Street. The weed coalition is a group of public and private landowners who work together to reduce the number of invasive weeds in our City.

The workshop will be a couple of hours, after work for most, and in some very pretty locations near the Carson River. It will be fun AND informative and you will get to visit areas that are “off the beaten path.”

TRPA: Lake Tahoe environmental report nets promising results

Several environmental gains over the last five years have been made at the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s “Threshold Evaluation Report” released Wednesday, which highlights water quality as a continued area of concern.
