Lake Tahoe is home to Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Festival July 24-25 at Tallac Site

One of Lake Tahoe’s most notable cultural events will take place at the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival the weekend of July 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Festival is a rare cultural event for families taking place on the grounds of the Valhalla Grand Hall with a basket weaving competition, native film festival, traditional dance, native artists, performers and much more.

Defunct Businesses, Abandoned Records Threat to Data Security

With the faltering economy, many businesses are shutting their doors – and sometimes improperly disposing of their records, putting their former customers at risk for identity theft. Examples from just the past month include:

•In late May, two decades’ worth of customer records from a recently closed boat company in Portland, Oregon, were discovered in a dumpster. The records contained personal information, including Social Security numbers, according to Portland television station KGW, which had received a tip about the abandoned records.

Alice in Dance Wonderland at Carson City Community Center

Ayako's Dance Studio dancers will perform in "Alice in Dance Wonderland" on May 28, 7 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, Bob Boldrick Theater.

Lake Tahoe's McCall Realty to donate all 2010 profits to nonprofit children's programs

Lake Tahoe-based McCall Realty (www.mccalltahoe.com) will donate all its profits through 2010 to five area children’s non-profit organizations: Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), South Lake Tahoe Police Activities League (PAL), South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, and Tahoe Youth and Family Services.

Cash in on the celebration of coins this Saturday in Carson City

Time to flip a coin and cash in on some Carson City history this week.
Today through Saturday is National Coin Week and the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club will celebrate the occasion with events culminating on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.

The 87th annual National Coin Week, will celebrate coin and currency collecting with the theme, “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks.” The Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club, both members of the American Numismatic Association, have several events lined up for the day.
