South Lake Tahoe ski patroller identified in fatal incident at Heavenly

UPDATE: The man who died Saturday has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher John Nicholson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Nicholson was a member of the Heavenly Ski Patrol and had been working that day. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washoe County Coroner’s Office is working to identify a cause of death, according to a DCSO news release.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — An employee with Heavenly Mountain Resort was involved in a serious accident Saturday, resulting in his death.

Andersen Ranch Estates subdivision approved by Carson City Board of Supervisors

The Andersen Ranch Estates project was discussed at length — almost four hours in fact — at Thursday’s Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting, before being approved by the board on a 4-1 vote.

One confirmed fatality at Tahoe Ski Resort Avalanche Friday morning

UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: Search and Rescue and PCSO have called off the search and are confirming there are no further victims of the avalanche to be found. Cole Comstock, 34, of Blairsden, CA has been identified as the deceased in the avalanche that occurred at Alpine Meadows.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), there is one confirmed fatality and a second victim with serious injuries following an avalanche at Alpine Meadows in Lake Tahoe.

Greenhouse Project dinner fundraiser, comedy, live music and more: Carson City region readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! I have had a lot of opportunity knock on my door lately. Weather Service: 54 mph gust in north Carson City, 68 in Washoe Valley, 137 mph at Alpine Meadows

High wind gusts occurred throughout the Carson City and Lake Tahoe region Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, especially along ridge tops and wind prone locations. The National Weather Service chart above includes selected locations where wind gusts of 50 mph or above were reported.

Obituary: Robert Paul Pier

United States Marine Corps Captain (retired), Robert Paul Pier (Bob) left this life for eternity on Jan. 8, 2020 to be reunited with his Creator and his waiting wife, Ruth Jane Pier. Bob was born on August 10, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana as the youngest of nine children, Bob was 88 years old.

22 bighorn sheep to be re-introduced to Pyramid Lake range

The Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe are set to release 22 bighorn sheep Monday to the Lake Range on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation in a historic project between NDOW and the Tribe to reintroduce the species to the mountains surrounding Pyramid Lake where they once thrived.

High Wind Warning tonight through Tuesday for Carson City region

A weather system moving into the region will bring strong gusty winds, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Warning from 10 p.m. Monday through 1 p.m. Tuesday for the greater Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton areas as well as the Mono County region.

Bobcat spotted resting in Southwest Carson after a lunch of a neighbor's pet duck

According to Carson City resident Bob Bondiett, a bobcat was spotted in a residential neighborhood taking a snooze under a cherry tree after the wild cat made itself a lunch out of a neighbor's pet duck.

Famed country rock band at Silver City, early Carson City history, live comedy and more this weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Mountain lion spotted in northwest Carson City, NDOW urges awareness, safe practices

A mountain lion was spotted Tuesday morning in the hills in northwest Carson City in the Timberline area, prompting wildlife officials to urge residents to be aware and to take steps to avoid any chance of human and cougar contact.

Forest Service firefighter from Lake Tahoe deployed to Australia; BLM sends Carson City fuels program manager

UPDATE: The Bureau of Land Management says it has deployed six from Nevada who are helping with firefighting efforts in Australia. Two are already there, with four on the way including a Fuels Program Manager from Carson City who is serving as a plans chief. Other personnel are from the Battle Mountain District, an assistant Superintendent for the Silver State Hotshots, a helicopter supervisor from the Elko District and an Engine Captain from Southern Nevada.

UNR Extension offers no cost radon test kits, presentations to reduce lung cancer risks

RENO — January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 1 through Feb. 29. Carson City’s first 'Unsilent Night' happens Sunday at BAC as part of worldwide music event

For the first time, the Brewery Arts Center has organized Carson City’s "Unsilent Night." An original composition by Phil Kline, "Unsilent Night" was written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer.

Carson City wins Levitt Amp Concert Series Grant for Fifth Straight Year

Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. The Brewery Arts Center submitted Carson City’s Levitt AMP proposal.
