Carson City has issued a warning about a mountain lion that was seen today in the area of King Street and Ormsby Boulevard, near Carson Middle School.

"Please use caution and keep children and pets under close supervision at all times," the warning reads.

A jogger on Kings Canyon Road reported that a mountain lion was chasing after him, coming down the hill towards him. He reported crossing the street with vehicle traffic and the cat didn't follow.

If the lion is spotted, the city is asking you to call 911.

Here are some tips about what to do if you see a mountain lion. The key thing is don't run away.

An injured mountain lion that had killed a dog near the Lakeview subdivision on the northwest side of Carson City over the weekend died after personnel from the Nevada Division of Wildlife shot it with a tranquilizer.

A resident reported that the big cat had killed a 14-year-old husky and was aggressively guarding the carcass when NDOW was called in, according the NDOW public information officer Chris Healy.

A city and two nonprofit groups’ combined commitments more than double the reward offered for information on a brutal mountain lion killing.
The City of Calabasas in eastern Los Angeles County has matched the $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of poachers who killed a mountain lion in the Santa Monica Mountains last month.
Two other groups put up an additional $1,700 for a total reward of $11,700.

Idaho Fish and Game will auction furs, hides, antlers, traps and miscellaneous hunting and fishing equipment on Saturday, April 2, at the Clearwater Regional office, 3316 16th St., in Lewiston.

Anyone interested may view the items beginning at 8 a.m., with the auction beginning promptly at 10 a.m.

Auction items include furs, whole carcasses, antlers, and skulls of elk, moose, deer, black bear, mountain lion, otter, beaver, bobcat and fox.

When the Nevada State Board of Wildlife Commissioners met recently in Las Vegas, its members tackled a packed agenda that included the establishment of big game hunting seasons for 2011 and 2012, including the state’s first black bear hunt and proposed changes to the state’s waterfowl hunt zones.
