Kiwanis One Day activates at state park in Genoa

Division 45 Kiwanians from Kiwanis of Carson City, Carson Valley, Fallon, Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Sunrisers, Sierra Nevada and Tahoe Sierra participated in the Kiwanis One Day program by raking leaves and picking up windblown trash at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa on Saturday.

Sen. Harry Reid asks legislators to fund education, outlaw prostitution

Sen. Harry Reid spoke at a joint session of the Nevada Legislature this morning, asking legislators not to cut education, and to have "an adult conversation" about outlawing prostitution.

The call for ending legal brothels was met by a a cool reception from the legislators who gave it only a smattering of applause followed by an uneasy silence. In the gallery was BunnyRanch owner Dennis Hof and some of his working girls.

Mormon Emigrant Trail closes for season on Friday

The Mormon Emigrant Trail that links Highway 88 and Highway 50 will close for the season on Friday, the U.S. Forest Service announced.

The road will be gated closed near the Iron Mountain Snopark, which is at 7,000-foot elevation. The route will reopen in the spring, when conditions improve.
