Susie Bongers-Gunkel passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, May 10, 2020 on Mother’s Day with the love of her family surrounding her after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer).

For the third straight year, MJ’s Sports Bar in Carson City is winner of the Battle of the Bars Toy Drive for the Salvation Amy, with patrons and employees having collected 145 toys.

My loving sister, Susie Bongers, who moved to Carson City from Vietnam in February of 1973, attended Carson City schools until graduating from Carson High School in 1986, works with her mother and sister at MJ Beauty Salon, has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, the mother of all brain cancers.

Stand-up Comic Mickey Joseph was a finalist in 1998 SF Comedy Competition. Throughout the 80's and 90's, he appeared on ABC'S America's Funniest People, NBC'S Friday Night Videos, and FOX TV'S Comedy Day. He has also headlined Harvey's in Portland, Indianapolis Comedy Connection, Governors in NY, the Icehouse in Pasadena, Comedy Underground in Seattle, Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale. and many more.

MJ’s Sports Bar on South Carson Street in Carson City was declared the winner Saturday of the annual Battle of the Bars Toy Drive with patrons and staff collecting 141 toys.

With an impressive 135 toys collected, MJ's Sports Bar in Carson City won the Battle of the Bars Toy Drive hosted by the Salvation Army. Crossroad's Lounge collected 79 new toys, placing second in the competition, with Ed's Doghouse collecting 63.

At least one Carson City School District official is troubled by the outcome of Friday's misdemeanor driving under the influence guilty plea by Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo.
School board trustee president Norm Scoggin said he's "amazed" that a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana was dropped by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.
