Boys and Girls Club to raffle Burning Man tickets at Kentucky Derby Fundraiser Saturday

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada is set to host one of their largest fundraisers of the year this Saturday, May 4, for its 11th year. Kentucky Derby Days 2019 will kick off at the Martin Hotel and Basque Restaurant, located at 308 N. Curry Street, at 2:30 p.m. and will run until 6 p.m.

All proceeds of the event will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, located in Carson City.

Carson City Mint 150 lecture, programs featured Saturday

The Nevada State Museum continues its months-long celebration leading up to the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint with lectures and other special events in March.

Recognizing March is also Women’s History Month, the museum is presenting the lecture “Women Workers of the Carson City U.S. Mint,” as its March “Mint150” event. The museum’s curator of history, Bob Nylen, will present the lecture at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16.

CARSON CITY — Do you love Nevada history, and, more importantly, do you love sharing that knowledge with others? If so, the Nevada State Museum has a perfect opportunity.

The museum is recruiting for volunteers, who will get a multi-day in-depth jaunt through the museum’s collections and operations.

The Nevada State Museum was voted the best museum in rural Nevada by the readers of Nevada Magazine in 2018. It couldn’t have received that recognition without the cadre of volunteers who help out on a daily basis, said Director Myron Freedman.
