Race Saturday to traverse historic Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe

The second annual Lake Tahoe Flume Trail Fall Classic Half Marathon, a point-to-point race from Spooner State Park to Tunnel Creek Station, will be Saturday.

“You’ll have spectacular views,” said organizer Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy. “It’s a world-famous trail for a reason.”

Boy Scout group of the Comstock has members from Dayton, Virginia City

Boy Scout Troop 847 continues to serve the young men of the Comstock. Meeting weekly at the Mark Twain Community Center, 500 Sam Clemens Avenue in Dayton, the Troop currently has 14 registered Scouts from Dayton and Virginia City.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several calls where a male with a Hispanic accent threatens to kill a female if monies are not sent to him.

Sgt. Pat Brooks with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the agency is investigating three calls where a female in the back ground is heard screaming and a male is asking for $50,000 to be sent to him or he will put a bullet in the female’s head.

Carson City detectives ask for help in finding runaway teen

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating at 15-year-old runaway. Saurem-August-Perez, 15, was reported as a runaway Thursday and entered into the National Crime Information Center, said Detective Sal Acosta.

She is described as Hispanic, five feet, four inches tall, 135 pounds, brown eyes and black hair. A witness states she was possibly with her known boyfriend, Abraham Cortez, 18, who is on juvenile probation for drug trafficking.

Data shows Nevadans gave the most to charity during the recession

When recession struck the Silver State, it was Nevadans who pulled together and were the most charitable, according to IRS statistics compiled by a national nonprofit consulting agency.

From around December of 2007 to June of 2009, the recession kicked off by the subprime mortgage crisis, affected the entire nation and especially Nevada, among the hardest hit. The states that experienced some of the biggest decreases in median income actually increased their charitable giving the most, according to PlentyConsulting.com.

Your cabal of socialists will have more than doubled our national debt by the time you leave office and increased long term liabilities beyond a hundred trillion dollars. You have maxed out the national FED credit card.

Senator Square: CHS Marching Band wins Nevada Day Battle of the Bands

The CHS Marching Band competed last weekend in the Nevada Day Battle of the Bands held at Spanish Springs High School. The band finished first in their division beating out rivals Douglas High School.

They received the caption for "Outstanding Music." This award marks the first time in nine years that the marching band took home a first place trophy in a field show competition. Way to Go Big Blue Thunder!

Reno to London nonstop flights to begin in December 2015

Northern Nevada's first non-stop flight service between Reno and London’s Gatwick Airport will begin in December 2015, Reno-Tahoe International Airport officials announced Tuesday.
