Services Monday for Carson City business leader, Assemblyman Pete Livermore

Funeral services for Nevada Assemblyman Pete Livermore of Carson City will be Monday, Oct. 27, 11 a.m., at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Livermore died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was 73.

Longtime Carson City businessman, elected leader Pete Livermore dies

Pete Livermore, a longtime Carson City elected leader and business owner, died Monday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was 73.

Livermore was a Nevada Assemblyman who decided this year that he would not seek re-election. He began in the Assembly District 40 on Feb. 7 2011. Before that, Livermore was a member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, 1998-2010; was Mayor pro Tem, Carson City, 2004-2006.

Toys for Tots gets holiday delivery of gifts, cash collected by Nevada Department of Public Safety and Capitol Police

With ongoing requests for children's Christmas gifts still being taken, the Toys For Tots program in Carson City was presented with generous gifts of cash and children's toys on behalf of the Capitol Police division of the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Nevada State Law Enforcement Officers' Association.

Marines to make final Toys For Tots push this weekend at three Walmart stores

The 2013 Toys For Tots season is in full swing and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center is asking for the public's help. The local Toys For Tots program aims to help more than 7,000 children in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties with gifts this holiday season.

The Toys for Tots HOTLINE will be open for families requesting toys for Christmas. The hotline opens December 2nd through December 23rd from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday.

Toys for Tots will be serving children in Carson, Douglas, Storey and Lyon counties. The HOTLINE NUMBER IS 884-TOYS.

Toys for Tots will be kicking off the 2013 campaign with our local Marines at all three Walmart stores on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30.

Free screening of Vietnam War documentary today at Western Nevada College

Western Nevada College offers veterans and the public the opportunity to spend a part of Veterans Day viewing a documentary film about one of the longest and deadliest battles of the Vietnam War.

“Bravo! Common Men, Uncommon Valor” will be screened at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, in Marlette Hall on the WNC Carson City campus. Admission is free.

Heartbreaking toll of Nevada blast felt as 7 Marines are mourned

The bodies of the seven Marines who died after Monday’s explosion at the Hawthorne Army Depot were flown Wednesday from Reno to a military mortuary in Dover, Del.

HAWTHORNE, Nev. — A mortar shell explosion killed at least seven Marines and injured several more during mountain warfare training in Nevada's high desert, prompting the Pentagon to immediately halt the use of the weapons until an investigation can determine their safety, officials said Tuesday.

7 Marines killed in mortar explosion at Nevada military depot

HAWTHORNE — Seven Marines from a North Carolina unit were killed when a 60mm mortar exploded unexpectedly at a Nevada military depot that's an important training facility for troops headed overseas, a Marine Corps official said.

The Marines immediately issued an indefinite moratorium on firing of all such mortars worldwide until an investigation clears as safe the type of weapon and ammunition in the tragedy.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mills Park.
The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.

State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists

Carl Kuhl, a state Parole and Probation employee of six years, has created a plan that he claims will eliminate Nevada's budget deficit within two years.

In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.

Carson City Sheriff's Office receives award for 'National Night Out'
