We're in for a warming trend for the next couple days, with highs in the low 40s today, and low 50s by Thursday into Friday. And then another weather system may blow in time for the weekend. January presentations statewide teach radon safety, offer free radon test kits

Radon test kits are available at Cooperative Extension offices and partnering locations, as well as at presentations, statewide.

He competed against student winners from several other states and will receive $1,000 for his poster, “The Element of Surprise.”

Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, comes from the ground and can enter homes and accumulate to elevated concentrations. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates 21,000 Americans die each year from radon-caused lung cancer, killing more people than secondhand smoke, drunk driving, falls in the home, drowning or house fires.

The contest is open to all children ages 9 to 14 years old enrolled in public, private, territorial, tribal, Department of Defense and home schools. Children can also enter through a sponsoring club, such as an art, computer, library, reading, science, scouting, youth or 4-H club.

Carson City health educator applauds decision by CVS to end sale of smokes, tobacco products

There are three CVS pharmacies in Carson City.

Lynn was born Sept. 28, 1942 in Pittsburg, Calif. Among her survivors are her husband James Michael Phalan, her brother William (Lisa) Barbagallo, sister Noreen Byrd, daughter Michelle (Tim) Cleveland, sons Jeff Phalan, and Jim (Gabriela); step children Dave (Debbie) Phalan, Janine Phalan, and Greg (Dora) Phalan, grandchildren Nathan and Ashley Edwards, Zoey Cleveland, Emily Lawrence, Sofia, Jimmy, Jamie, Sara, Holly and Tierra Phalan.

Sierra Nevada Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art oncology and hematology facility now offering treatment in five locations including Carson City, Fallon, Gardnerville and Sparks. The South Lake Tahoe facility will expand the reach of Sierra Nevada Cancer Center making cancer treatment more convenient and closer to home for those living at the Lake.
