This weekend Carson Lanes invites the public to an open house to celebrate new changes that were made. The open house is filled with contests, a bounce house, games and live music.

The open house began Saturday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Tonight, Saturday, the Band Intent will play through 11:30 p.m. in the Eleventh Frame Winners Lounge.

Washington Post Publishes Investigation of Intelligence Operations Since 9-11

The Washington Post has published a long-awaited – and controversial – investigation called “Top Secret America” that details the vast patchwork of government contractors and intelligence operations that were spawned in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Post uncovered an operation “so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work.”

25th annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival

The 25th Annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival takes place the weekend of Aug 13-15. The weekend opens at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13 with a free open-air concert at the Davis Creek Park Amphitheater. The main Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival takes place from 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 on the Bowers Mansion grounds, gate opens at 9 a.m., Cost $15 adults, $3 kids 2-12. Seven bluegrass bands will perform. Food and craft vendors on site.

Grand Opening of Carson Lanes in Carson City Aug. 7-8

Carson Lanes had undergone a major renovation and expansion of its Synder Avenue facility and wants all of Carson City to know about it.
That's why it will celebrate with a huge weekend open house, complete with contests, kids carnival, dance demonstrations, games, live music, a dunk tank and $2,000 in free prize giveaways.
The fun begins Saturday, Aug. 7 with bowling and happy hour deals and random gift card drawings throughout the day. A ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Nevada's New Tax Amnesty Program Brings In $3.4 Million So Far

CARSON CITY – A new tax amnesty program initiated July 1 by the Nevada Department of Taxation has brought in $3.4 million in previously uncollected revenue through Tuesday, with just over two more months to go.

Carson City school board meets tonight, principal DUI issue not on the agenda

The Carson City School District Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. (Catch the live video here)
District Superintendent Richard Stokes will be absent from the meeting because of a planned vacation, officials said.

Activities continue at Tahoe Tallac Site with Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival

Carson City D.A. kicks off effort to tackle elder abuse

Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo, in conjunction with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and other city agencies, kicked off an effort today to battle abuse of elderly and vulnerable citizens.

Speaking at the Carson City Senior Center, Rombardo related his own positive experiences with his grandmother as a motivation for the effort to make sure senior citizens in this community have access to help to escape abusive situations.

Carson City authorities investigate dog attack

A dog that had apparently bit a person earlier tonight attacked a Carson City deputy when he responded to a separate civil dispute just inside the gate of a 5th Street home. The dog was fatally shot.
The deputy was bit and sustained multiple wounds by the large shepherd/Labrador dog on the lower calf area. The dog apparently cornered the officer within 10 feet inside the gated yard.
"The officer was unable to stop the dog," said Sheriff Ken Furlong, who was at the scene.

Flash flood warning issued for Carson City; power line snaps

A flash flood warning issued for Carson City has expired but continues through 6:15 p.m. in central Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Rain and heavy winds have punched the region, with reports of power outages in east and west Carson City.

In addition, the westbound lane of Highway 50 going up to Spooner Summit is closed, with Nevada Highway Patrol diverting traffic. No word yet on the cause for the closure.

A power line snapped and a transformer is down in the area of Spear and Nevada streets near Division. Carson City fire crews and the Carson City Sheriff's Office closed portions of traffic in the area. The downed power lines did not arc and were not live on the ground, according to fire personnel on the scene.

Gardnerville resident identified as the woman who died in the Carson City Jail

A Gardnerville woman has been identified by authorities as being the woman who died in the Carson City Jail on Sunday.
Kimberly Wood, 23, died Sunday morning for unknown reasons. An autopsy was performed today, Tuesday, with results not expected for several weeks, Carson City Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said.
Wood was found dead on Sunday morning in the Carson City jail after she had been arrested on Saturday night, on a warrant from Lyon County. 
Authorities had made contact with Wood and a man she was with during a domestic dispute that happened while driving.

Carson City School District president 'amazed' marijuana charge dropped against principal

At least one Carson City School District official is troubled by the outcome of Friday's misdemeanor driving under the influence guilty plea by Carson Middle School Principal Sam Santillo.
School board trustee president Norm Scoggin said he's "amazed" that a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana was dropped by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

Supervisors meeting as Redevelopment Authority approved resolution to suspend program to offer financial incentives to small businesses, which would allow the Office of Business Development to focus on infrastructure and larger projects.

A proposal to refund outstanding bond debt, plus a review of policies involving co-curricular and interscholastic activities will round out the Carson City School District board meeting on Tuesday.
