Celebrating 150 years, Pony Express to Arrive in Carson City

The Pony Express will celebrate its 150th anniversary this year with a ride through Carson City on Wednesday, June 9, arriving at around 8:30 a.m. with a stop at Third and Curry streets. All are welcome to see the exchange of the mochila, with a special presentation event planned at the stop.

Letters from the Nevada Frontier

Bob Nylen, Curator of History at the Nevada State Museum will continue his series of lectures depicting Nevada's rich historical past with Letters from the Nevada Frontier. Bob will be showing slides and reading the correspondence of Tasker L. Oddie. This will give you an insight of the early life of Nevada. The program starts at 2 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum. Nugget Project: Landlord doubts state agencies will move

At the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Advisory Committee meeting last night, it was revealed that the developers are negotiating with the Gaming Control Board, Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Health and Human Services about relocating to the planned downtown development.

But the landlord of one of these agencies said it would be highly unlikely that any of them will move anytime soon.

With veiled threats to the governors of Nevada and several other states last month by a far-right militia group, the amount of anti-government fervor may be boiling over nationally, but all is peaceful today in Carson City as more than a thousand have gathered at the Capitol to protest President Barack Obama, Sen. Harry Reid and health care.

Oh, and taxes. But there were far more anti-Obama and Harry Reid signs and a few Hitler ones than anything remotely about the IRS, today being the filing deadline for federal income taxes.

Mark Hutchison, lead counsel for Governor Gibbons’ newly retained pro-bono team, said he plans to participate in a conference with US District Court Judge Roger Vinson next week as part of the process to join Florida and other states in an amended complaint challenging the federal government on provisions in the recently passed health care legislation.

Arizona man faces multiple charges in terrorist threats against Nevada officials

CARSON CITY — An Arizona man is due in court April 7 and faces multiple felony charges after allegedly making terrorist threats to citizens and public officials in Nevada, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety – Investigation Division obtained an arrest warrant on March 9 for Douglas Hoffman, 63.

Tighter security measures at Carson City capitol building after threats

A letter by an extremist group that told Gov. Gibbons and other governors to resign forced the partial closure of the capitol building in Carson City this morning, multiple news agencies are reporting.
