Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Along with live music and a 5K run/walk at Bob McFadden Plaza, there is plenty of excitement buzzing around the state capitol! Read on for more information.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! What do you get when you combine 134 golfers, 70 runners, and 24 weight lifters on a beautiful Saturday in September? The results are over $9,000 raised toward pancreatic cancer funding and over $3,000 raised for local scholarships. Pretty amazing, right?

The Christmas season can be difficult for children in foster care. For some, it may be the first Christmas not spent with their families. For others, it is just one more Christmas in the child welfare system.

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run. You’ve still got plenty of pumpkin opportunities with the Nevada Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train or the Corley Ranch Harvest Festival in Gardnerville. It’s a classic whodunnit on the big screen. Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. If you’ve never been to the annual International Camel Races, you’ve been missing out. Keep reading, there’s something for everyone on this list. Find your fun.

The Silver Saddle Ranch is always beautiful, but an afternoon filled with live bluegrass and western music, food, and family fun, makes today’s ‘A Day at the Ranch’ your best bet. Beat the heat up at Lake Tahoe as the Annual Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival wraps up its competition at Kings Beach. Learn some Dutch Oven cooking tips at Mormon Station State Park, just get their before all of their breakfast casserole and bacon bomb samples are gone. Read on for even more things to do.

The valley is alive with the sound of music: the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, to be specific. Just about everywhere you go, you’ll be treated to something to soothe the soul or get the toes tapping. Get the kids up early for the Young Eagle Flights at the Carson City Airport – they’re free, but you need to be on time for registration. The third annual Rock Tahoe Half Marathon, presented by Epic Tahoe Adventures, will return to Stateline, Nev., on Saturday, June 17, 2017.

Today, I’m going to put on my career coaching hat for this column. Lately, I have run into a lot of educated professionals who are having difficulty finding gainful employment.

The sun is out more and the weather is warming up. With that, comes the need to protect against sunburn. Although the first sunburn of the season feels kind of nostalgic on my skin. I also realize that it’s a bad habit to develop.

I love taking clients on Monday mornings just before I write this column. I particularly enjoy the complementary consultations. Because, then I get to share with all of you! This morning, I was speaking with a lovely new client in Seattle.

This morning, I was getting my morning coffee and gearing up for Motivation Monday at Adams Hub for Innovation. In the process, I overheard a conversation. Someone was looking for a solution. I had the answer.

This morning, I had the pleasure of speaking with a career coaching client who is late in his career. Within a few minutes of speaking to him, I knew I had to share his lesson with Carson City too. See, experience is a double-edged sword.

Children 10 and up are welcome to workout with us. We will provide open gym/childcare for children under 10 for $5 per child, if they are preregistered at least 48 hours ahead of time.

Come join Kaia FIT for a FREE Super Bowl Community workout. Bring your friends and family, kids and spouses welcome too. Childcare will be available for children under six. Kids older than six will be able to participate in our workout. A $5 suggested donation for non-members will be donated to the Tumbleweeds Gymnastics Team.

Kaia FIT Carson and Minden are joining all Nevada Kaia FIT locations to Flow for the Cure. We are partnering with Susan G Komen during the week of October 3rd to support breast cancer prevention.

Join us for any of our wonderful flow classes and your gift will support Komen Nevada in providing local community grants to help people in our community access education, screening and treatment. Your funds also support life-saving research initiatives that will enable scientists to discover the cures for breast cancer.

Suggested donation of $5-10 per class is encouraged.

The third annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day is like Carson City’s mini Olympics, said founder Robey Willis.

“There’s so much going on with the golf tournament, the run and the weight-lifting competition,” he said. “I think that’s what makes it such a festive atmosphere. People are having so much fun.”

On Friday, August 19th, Kaia FIT, the South Reno facility offering a holistic group fitness and nutrition program for women, will host a grand re-opening of the space with a special “Runway Reveal” fashion show, highlighting the incredible success stories of local women who have achieved tremendous weight-loss and now live healthier and happier lives.

February means it's time to Share the Love. Current Kaia Girls can bring their friends any Saturday in February. And if you don't know a Kaia Girl, come anyway. We'd love to introduce you to our program. Open to women of all ages and fitness levels, KaiaFIT classes are designed to meet you exactly where you are. Our saturday workouts start at 8am and alternate between Power Hour (a full body workout focusing on function and muscle confusion) or I Kan Dance (our cardio-filled dance fitness hour).

KaiaFIT Minden and Carson will be celebrating the end of their six-week BRIK session with a Kaia Red Party at El Charro Avitia, on Saturday, February 13th at 6pm.
