Native species festival to celebrate with Tahoe Yellow Cress planting at Baldwin Beach

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — This Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to noon, the Sugar Pine Foundation will co-host a Tahoe yellow cress planting with the Tahoe yellow cress Adaptive Management Working Group at Baldwin Beach, which is National Forest System land managed by the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

I recently cleaned out old files on my computer, coming across one I hadn't seen in six years.

It was the eulogy I wrote for and delivered at my father's funeral on June 30, 2012.

Reading through it for the first time in six years stirred up a lot of memories, some painful but mostly fond.

Carson City BMX is one of those participating tracks. Our Olympic Day, actually night, is June 22, with signups starting at 6:30 p.m. Come try it out at no cost.

Hot rods to line up for Carson City's Rockabilly Riot at Mills Park

More than 600 cars are expected to roll into Carson City for the annual Rockabilly Riot on June 21-23 in Mills Park.
The show will feature hot rods — most built from the ground up — from 1976 and older.

Brewery Arts Center receives grant from the
 Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation

The board of directors of the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, a Reno based philanthropic organization awarded the Brewery Arts Center $18,576 to upgrade its stage equipment for not only the Levitt AMP Outdoor Concert series which kicks off this Friday night, June 23 with a free concert featuring the Grammy nominated swing band Big Bad VooDoo Daddy, but to be used in the existing indoor theaters year round.

Carson City Pedal Library provides books during summer school

Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books available at each school within the Carson City School District.
