Carson City Symphony Association announces Carson Chamber Singers director

Carson City Symphony Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard “Ricky” Hutton as Director of Carson Chamber Singers. His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4th concert in Genoa.

Eleven New Cases reported in Quad-County area since July 2, three new hospitalizations

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting eleven new positive cases and two additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 372, with 260 recoveries and seven deaths, 105 cases remain active.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for the upcoming 4th of July celebration and would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day. The "Best of Cruise" at last week's Carson City Thursday Night Cruise at Wingstop on South Carson Street went to Ray with his 1940 Ford Deluxe 4 door sedan. Organizers note there were 85 cars and trucks participating in the June 27, 2019 vehicle cruise.

Fishing Report: Anglers are reeling them in during the warming weather

Hello fellow anglers. The official start of summer is only two weeks away and the weather has started to cooperate. Many of the passes are opening and the higher lakes are thawing out. Winter seems to get longer and longer each year. So enjoy the next two weeks of spring, because I have a feeling its going to be a hot year. Fishing has started to pick up all over the area, and with the school year ending for most kids, we are now in full camping mode. There are still some areas that are closed, due to the excessive winter we just had. I will try to keep you updated as the season progresses.

Carson City supervisors to discuss funding allocations, budget augments

NHP urges motorists to slow down, take the extra time during July 4 holiday

CARSON CITY — In an effort to save lives, the Nevada Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to slow down. As part of Joining Forces, a statewide law enforcement program, additional law enforcement officers will be working overtime now through July 13 enforcing speed limit laws.

Life of Julia Bulette featured at Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting

Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.

In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.

Keep Tahoe Red, White and Blue Beach Cleanups

After Tahoe's July Fourth festivities, our beaches are thrashed with trash, which can hurt wildlife and lake clarity. Each year, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors turn out for our largest cleanup of the year to remove litter from our beaches. Help Keep Tahoe Blue by joining a beach cleanup site!

Cleanup sites include:
• Commons Beach (Tahoe City)
• Kings Beach
• Kiva Beach
• Nevada Beach
• Regan Beach

We will provide cleanup materials, refreshments and raffle prizes. Please bring your reusable water bottle, friends and cleanup gloves if you have them!
