Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case. From the Downtown Carson City Ghost Walk to the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Casino Fandango, a day hike with Muscle Powered to the Spring Blinky Man night-time costumed bike pub crawl – this weekend is chock-full of fun for locals and visitors alike, for the young and young-at-heart.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms move into Carson City region

Strong thunderstorms have moved into the Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County areas, bringing periods of heavy rain, lightning, hail and ponding water, according to the National Weather Service.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

Easter festivities are on the way, starting with the Easter Eggstravaganza in the Bob McFadden Plaza on Thursday. Single lane closures ahead on U.S. 395 through Carson Valley to install traffic signal

CARSON CITY — Beginning Sunday, March 18, the Nevada Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin overnight single lane closures as part of an ongoing project to install a traffic signal on U.S. 395 at Airport Road and improve other highway intersections in the Carson Valley.

On Monday, Feb. 5, the Nevada Department of Transportation will begin preliminary utility work as part of an upcoming project to install a traffic signal on U.S. 395 at Airport Road and improve other highway intersections in the Carson Valley.

Sustainable Living is the subject of tonight’s forum at the Brewery Arts Center.

NV Energy power outages affect Carson Valley customers

UPDATE 10:50AM: Power has been mostly restored to areas around Carson Valley in Douglas County. There are around 98 customers without power in the Buckeye Road, East Valley Road areas. NV Energy says power should be restored by 11 a.m.

NV Energy reports several power outages Sunday morning affecting more than 4,500 customers in Douglas County and a handful in Carson City.

Carson City fire crews called to brush fires near Highway 395 and Johnson Lane

UPDATE 655PM: KOLO Channel 8 reports the northbound lane of U.S. 395 is open in Carson Valley as forward progress on four brush fires has stopped, East Fork Fire Protection District Capt. Terry Taylor said.

Tornado Warning expires for Carson City, Douglas, Lake Tahoe; thunderstorms bring flooding

UPDATE 5:47PM: Much of the localized flooding from the heavy rain has subsided. Winds are calm with a few lighting strikes still happening. There are no longer any severe weather warnings for Carson City.

UPDATE 5:15PM: The Tornado Warning has expired. Flooding throughout Carson City is being reported as rush hours begins. William Street from Mills Park, College Parkway, Roop Street, and Saliman all experiencing flooding issues. Much of the heavy rain has now moved on though there are several lightning strikes still around Carson City.

Gardnerville man identified in Saturday's fatal pedestrian hit and run

A 21-year-old Gardnerville man has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed in a hit and run crash that happened early Saturday morning in the Johnson Lane area of Douglas County, authorities said Monday.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday in the area of Mills Park for felony suspicion of robbery after allegedly threatening juveniles and stealing their speaker box, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City and Douglas law officers arrest three in connection to recent home burglaries

Detectives from Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office worked a joint investigation Wednesday involving multiple residential burglaries between the two counties. Three men were arrested as a result of the investigation, a law enforcement captain said.

With localized drainage flooding happening in many areas around the capital city region today, the Carson River near Carson City is rising and expected to reach peak flood stage Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
