A Dense Smoke Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Carson City, Dayton, Carson Valley and Reno areas through 5 p.m. Monday.

Smoke from King Fire cancels Ironman Lake Tahoe

Organizers of IRONMAN Lake Tahoe canceled the second annual 140-mile race and other related events early Sunday morning due to smoke from the King Fire. The call was made at the last moment, after thousands of competitors and race personnel descended on Kings Beach State Park for a planned 6:30 a.m. start.

Wind shift keeps King Fire smoke away from Carson City

The King Fire, which started a week ago, Sept. 13, has now burned nearly 81,000 acres east of Pollock Pines in El Dorado County. As of Saturday morning, the human-caused fire is 10 percent contained.

Truckee Tomorrow Economic Development Initiative Moves into Next Phase

A group of 50 community leaders recently gathered for a Truckee Tomorrow meeting to discuss economic development strategies. The meeting was facilitated by Ryan Sharp, Director of the Center for Strategic Economic Research (CSER), an economic research and consulting group. CSER is affiliated with SACTO (Sacramento Area Commerce & Trade Organization) a widely respected non-profit and the leading facilitator of economic development for the Sacramento region, of which Truckee Tomorrow is a member.

Expedition Man Endurance Festival comes to Northern Nevada

Coming from as far as Australia and as near as North Lake Tahoe, more than 200 men and women athletes are gearing up for a race to remember at Northern Nevada’s inaugural Expedition Man Endurance Festival and Ultra-Distance-Triathlon, taking place Saturday, August 25. Athletes will begin with a swim at Zephyr Cove Resort at Lake Tahoe, then onto a more than 100-mile-bike-ride through Carson City and a long-run along the Truckee River, ending at the Legends at Sparks Marina.

North Lake Tahoe announced Wednesday that the first full-distance IRONMAN® event in California since 2001, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, sold out its general entries in less than a day. A limited number of IRONMAN Foundation spots are still available. The race is September 22, 2013.
