That’s why we think more highly of Greg Maddux than Roger Clemens. Maddux was all class all the time, while Clemens was full of ego, aggression and controversy.

Happy Anniversary, Mile High Jazz Band. Every second Tuesday they play a concert at Comma Coffee, and have for fifteen years. Help them celebrate. Grab your dancing shoes and head to Carson Lanes and learn some country line dancing. Kids won’t want to miss Craft Day at the Carson City Library: all supplies are free and waiting. It’s an evening of illusion at the Brewery Arts Center. Be dazzled and help raise funds for the Carson Middle School Band Program.

It was bag pipes and Irish song favorites at the Richard H. Bryan Building on Stewart Street in Carson City this St. Patrick's Day afternoon. Jonathan McRae of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Protection, gives an an impromptu bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace to employees.

Saint Patrick was a gentleman, who through strategy and stealth, drove all the snakes from Ireland, here’s a toasting to his health. But not too many toastings, lest you lose yourself and then, forget the good Saint Patrick and see all those snakes again! Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Carson City. With St. Patrick’s Day arriving Thursday, the potential for intoxicated drivers being on the roadways greatly increases. As you celebrate this day with green beer, Irish whiskey or your favorite adult beverage, keep in mind that should you choose to drink and drive it is going to cost you a lot of green when you get arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will have a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.
The checkpoint will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

Marla Fibish and Bruce Victor are Noctambule. They play original and traditional music in a variety of forms – original musical settings of a broad array of poetry, original instrumental pieces, and traditional Irish tunes and songs. This unique collaboration brings out qualities in both of these seasoned musicians that you may not have heard from them before.

The Brewery Arts Center is presenting the toe tapping sounds of “Whiskey Before Breakfast” on Saturday, November 28 at 7pm at 2015 in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.

Playing traditional Irish and Scottish tunes in the Northern NV/CA area Whiskey Before Breakfast is made up of artists from Reno, Nevada creating music under the Watersign Studios record label.

Today is Veterans’ Day: a day to commemorate the men and women of the Armed Forces that have fought, and possibly died, for our country. Thank you for your service. Several places around town are offering something special for our Veterans today: free coffee, free breakfast, free lunch, etc. You’ll need to bring proof of service. Tonight, everyone is invited to the party. Check out the Junebugs at Living the Good Life. The Portland pop-folk band returns for a night of fun and dancing.

As of Saturday, I am retiring as the Outdoor Editor for Carson Now and a very special outdoor photographer (my wife Elaine) will also be retiring.
It's been a great run, full of great memories, but sooner or later all good things must come to an end, and Oct. 31 is that special time for the two of us.

With the Butte Fire growing to more than 64,000 acres Friday in nearby California foothill counties of Amador and Calaveras counties, fire danger throughout the entire region persists. And with near record high heat stretching into western Nevada through Saturday, the fire danger becomes dire.

Hot, near record temperatures are expected through Saturday across the Eastern Sierra and Western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service. Highs will near be in the mid 90s in Carson City to near 100 across Western Nevada valleys and the deserts of Northeast California.
