A free reception and artist talk by Reno photographer Paul Baker Prindle will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City.

The reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the artist talk at 6:15 p.m.

For nearly a decade, Baker Prindle has documented sites from California to New York that look extraordinarily ordinary, downright banal. Yet each of these places and their everyday landscapes has a horrific story to tell. Each photograph is of a location where gay men, lesbians and transgender individuals were murdered.

Wreath's Across America is coming to Carson City's Lone Mountain Cemetery thanks to the Carson City Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol which is organizing the event locally. Then, medical Doctors and Insurance companies began to lobby government to 'regulate' (i.e. monopolize) health care to 'improve' it.

Most of us love a great musical show, and one such example is Fiddler on the Roof, where the poor Jewish milkman, Tevye, is burdened with poverty while trying to maintain long-standing traditions and cope with oppression from the anti-Semitic Russians. At one point, he cries out to God, "I know, I know. We are your chosen people. But once in a while, can't You choose someone else?"

Out of all the nations in the world, why did God choose Israel? In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses explained why:

Hillary Rodham Clinton's four decades of professional misdeeds, scandals and crimes are well documented throughout the internet. Given that history, WHY would ANYBODY like HER to be the next PRESIDENT?!?!? I can think of two reasons.

CARSON CITY — Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence on Monday defended running mate Donald Trump’s controversial comments about Capt. Humayun Khan, who died from a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2004, and called Khan an American hero.

Marilee Swirczek, a writer, professor of English, faculty member at Western Nevada College, and a driving force behind the highly acclaimed “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” photo exhibition, died Sunday.

Swirczek was project director for the “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” exhibition that originated in her creative writing class. The exhibition received nationwide recognition, with a national tour that began in 2010 and ends this July 29, 2016. Marilee was a former Carson City Supervisor from 1987 to 1989 and wife of Ron Swirczek, a member of the Carson City School Board. She was 68.

Military veterans who have difficulty traveling outside of Carson City for Veterans Administration (VA) services have the benefit of some of those resources coming to them.

Perfecto Manuta, a Readjustment Counseling Technician with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, coordinates the Mobile Vet Center, an outreach on wheels for the Reno Vet Center.

Las Vegas, NV - On Friday March 18 2016, local teacher Reuben D'Silva, a former Iraq War Veteran and Ivy League graduate, declared his candidacy to represent Nevada's Congressional District 1 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

D’Silva stated:

Benjamin Busch served 16 years as an infantry and reconnaissance officer in the US Marine Corps, deploying to Iraq in 2003 and 2005. His memoir Dust to Dust ranges from a boyhood of fort building and exploration in rural New York to deployment during the worst of the war in Iraq.

He is also an actor, director and photographer, who portrayed Officer Anthony Colicchio in The Wire and is the writer/director of the film BRIGHT. He has been a contributor to Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, NPR’s All Things Considered and The Daily Beast.

The U.S. Navy christened its newest fast-transport ship, the USNS Carson City EPF-7 at a ceremony Saturday in Mobile, Alabama. Susan Asbury Crowell, wife of Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell, and sponsor of the ship, officially introduced it with a bottle of champagne during the ceremony, which also featured Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei.

After three long years of producing Women to Women for television on Charter Network, Producer Jose Paz and his wife and show host Carol Paz decided to retire.

The Nevada State EB-5 (NVEB-5) Regional Center in Carson City has named Carson City Manager Nick Marano as a member to its Board of Directors. Marano was elected to the position.

Additionally, Marano mentors at the Adams Hub for Innovation and is a member of the Western Nevada College Institutional Advisory Council. Further, he has been an active member of International City Managers’ Association.

The Reno Chapter No. 1 Disabled American Veterans organization has awarded the first-ever $1,000 scholarship to go to a Western Nevada College student. The scholarship, administered by the Western Nevada College Foundation in Carson City, will be awarded in November to a disabled veteran, or the dependent of a disabled veteran, at a dinner in Sparks Nov. 6.

Carson City residents gathered Friday in Mills Park with law officers and firefighters to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The service was held surrounding a I-beam memorial that was given to Carson City in 2010 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Among the flowers placed on the beam was as an American flag presented to the Carson City Fire Department by Michael Manfredo. The flag was given to the Carson City man by a son of one of the 343 fighters killed at the World Trade Center that day.

Lake Tahoe radio host, standup comedian and emcee of the Improv at Harveys, Howie Nave is among 62 Nevada radio and television personalities and managers who will be inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Nave, who has been with KRLT FM 93.9 as host of “Howie’s Morning Rush” at Lake Tahoe for nearly 15 years, will be inducted at the Four Seasons Hotel. He joins the ranks of more than 800 broadcasters from around Nevada who make up the Hall of Fame, celebrating its 20th year.

STATELINE — Sports stars and celebrities worked out the kinks from tee to green Tuesday during the opening practice round of the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course at Lake Tahoe.

Among the headliners to warm up and sign autographs at the famed Tahoe South course were defending 2014 champion Mark Rypien, retired New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, American Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain and first-timer Justin Timberlake.

Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.
