Carson City health officials fight two battles: one against COVID-19, another against misinformation
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 12/11/2020 - 10:15amIn our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.
However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.

Carson City sober-living facility closes, declares bankruptcy after client's death: Part II
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 09/05/2019 - 10:38amOn July 25, Joe Tummarello, a long-term client with Carson City-based sober-living facility Lyfe Recovery, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital. By all accounts, a month before his death he had been in fine health for a man of 76. He dealt with COPD and needed an oxygen tank to breathe in the high altitude of northern Nevada, but a check-up with his doctors during May of 2019 showed he was nowhere near the brink of death.
However, after being relocated to Carson City from Lyfe Recovery’s Reno facility, Joe’s medication was withheld and he was denied medical intervention after a rapid deterioration of his health, which ultimately, it is alleged, led to his death.
Family searches for answers to why father died after stay in Carson City sober-living home
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 09/04/2019 - 10:48amWhen Joe Tummarello moved into a sober living home in Carson City called Lyfe Recovery, his friends and family thought he was doing well. However, at the end of July, he wound up in the hospital after his health declined rapidly. His family says this was due to severe neglect at the hands of the owner and manager of the facility. By several accounts, he was denied medical treatment until a senior living home provider stepped in and took him to the hospital, where he died a week later.
The question is: did Joe Tummarello die before his time? And if the answer is yes, then is someone responsible for his demise?

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 01/30/2019 - 4:45pmWhen thinking about investments and retirement goals, many people think about owning rental properties. After all, they pay for themselves, right? They can be excellent additions to a savings and investment portfolio, but there are also risks. Here are the things to consider.
