Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

My son and I just had the most amazing day! A friendly serviceman from The Happy Outlet just gave my son and I these delicious sugar cookies. When we asked why, they said just to see us smile, no strings attached. Well we certainly did! The serviceman told us that March 20th was International Happiness Day. When we got home I looked it up and sure enough, this is actually a UN-sanctioned day. I think this is awesome that a local company is taking the time to do something wonderful for our community. With so much hate and division, everyone needs this now more than ever!

State K-12 Spending Up, Results Not Improved (Opinion)

This is the fourth in a series of columns summarizing my Controller’s Annual Report for fiscal year 2018 (FY18).

The first two columns showed that since FY06 state spending has grown faster than Nevada’s economy, thus imposing an ever-larger real burden on Nevada families and businesses, whose real incomes are lower now than in FY06. The third one noted Health and Social Services spending, the largest budget item, has grown most rapidly by far, driven greatly by federal health care mandates and funding.

Carson Assembly No. 7 Rainbow Girls will host Painting with a Pal on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson Lodge No. 1 of the Free and Accepted Masons, 113 E. Washington Street (at the corner of Carson Street) in Carson City.

The community is invited. Suggested age 5 and up. All proceeds will help support the girls with their community service and assembly events.

Cost is $20 per person. All art supplies and lunch are included. There will be two sessions: one at 10 a.m. and a second at 1 p.m.
