Beuys explained that only art is capable of building an effective social system, and “This most modern art discipline — Social Sculpture/Social Architecture — will only reach fruition when every living person becomes a creator, a sculptor, or architect of the social organism.”

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "High School Pic(ks) 2018" at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Thirty-two artists from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Tuesday, April 24, 5 – 7pm. The free exhibition is available to the public from April 15 – July 9, 2018, Mondays - Fridays, 8am – noon and 1-4pm.

The recently refurbished Nevada Artists Association Gallery at 449 West King Street, in Carson City, will feature the remarkable work of Verdi digital artist and photographer Catherine King, now through Feb. 16.

Remember the days when it seemed like there was no one available to help with homework? Well that excuse will not work anymore, at least not at Carson High School.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its faculty exhibition, "Inspirations", at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. The Brick is open to the public daily, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. The exhibition will remain in the building’s lobby exhibition space from October 23, 2017 through January 11, 2018. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, November 15, 5-7pm in the Brick.

Enter the exciting realm of self-portraiture & expressive collage! Description: Experiment with multiple layers and clippings from magazines, using colored paper and paint to create an expressive self-portrait! We will examine various artists who use collage to represent many layers of personality. Students will push beyond the traditional form of silhouette portraiture to explore new and exciting realms in mixed media work!

Kids, explore the wonder of color and fun of pinwheels! Description: Children will dive into COLOR, one of the most important elements of art! Students will paint their way into learning about color theory and color mixing.

The Carson City Visitors Bureau is one 75 nonprofit organizations selected to receive the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Grant, a literary grant challenging communities to create month-long programming around the themes of selected novels.

We invite children and families to experience our new IMAGINATIONS Children's Art Program. This program is designed to offer children a variety of art classes taught by professional art instructors as well as offer family retreats to create artwork together. Our Saturday Art Classes are held once each month with each teaching a different topic or discipline.

Class Dates:

April 8th - Printmaking Class I (ages 13-18)
May 13th - Printmaking Class II (ages 13-18)
June 24th - FUNdamentals of Color: Giant Pinwheels (ages 7-12)

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad has partnered with an architectural design class at Truckee Meadows Community College for a conceptual redesign of the V&T’s depot in Carson City. The project provided an opportunity for 16 students to take their imaginations inside the classroom out to the community – in this case for ideas to transform the current depot into a memorable train station.

At Carson High School, they are appropriately named Link Crew, also known as the Boomerang Project, and they are one of the most underappreciated yet profoundly beneficial programs at CHS.

Susan Crowell, wife of Mayor Bob Crowell of Carson City, is a mixture of strength, forthrightness, and intrigue. Susan is an attractive, well-spoken, well educated, and independent thinking female — both as a wife, mother, and citizen of Carson City. The definition of who she really is lies in her upbringing, her education, her marriage, her children, and in her personal interests. All these components interact to make for a thoughtful woman with a definite mind of her own, yet one who wants the best for others involved in all of these relationships.

Getting to the finals of the Walt Disney Imaginations Design Competition was a pinnacle for three University of Nevada, Reno engineering students, who spent a week in a fun and intensive competition with five other finalist universities.

A student team from the University of Nevada, Reno has been selected as one of the top six finalists by Walt Disney Imagineering, the design and development arm of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in its 24th Imaginations competition. Imaginations is a design competition created and sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering with the purpose of seeking out and nurturing the next generation of diverse Imagineers.

Forty-five years ago, in December 1969, President Richard Nixon signed a unique Bi-State Compact approving California and Nevada’s plan to create the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. It was the first such undertaking of its kind, uniting two states, six local jurisdictions, and the federal government in a shared mission to protect Lake Tahoe’s sensitive environment from overdevelopment.

That effort has shaped the Tahoe we know and love today, and will help shape the Tahoe that we bequeath to future generations.

With just 30 trains in the U.S. that travel to the North Pole, the Polar Express aboard the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad has captured the hearts, minds and imaginations of children, their parents and grandparents making the train tour into a holiday tradition for Carson City area families.

Carson Valley’s brightest celebration of the holiday season will take to the streets during the 17th Annual Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 1st, beginning at 5 p.m. Residents and visitors will line Highway 395 between Gilman Avenue in Gardnerville and Minden Town Park to watch dozens of colorfully decorated floats.
