Provide water for wild horses! Phase II Bella Vista Ranch development

Horse advocates are asking people to send this letter to the Reno City Council.

Dear Ms/Sir:

Phase II of the Bella Vista Ranch development (between South Meadows Parkway and Rio Wrangler Parkway is approved.

The 77-acre housing development will fence off several hundred horses from their only water source as soon as construction begins.

The development plan (p. 75) originally called for maintaining the horses access to water, but that provision has since been removed and there is no alternative plans for ensuring the horses' access to water!

New ‘Andersen Ranch’ housing development in west Carson City under review

There are several housing developments for Carson City currently in different stages of review, and one such development is the Andersen Ranch Development, named for the Andersen family who has farmed the Carson City region since the 1870s. This new development is not to be confused with Buzzy’s Ranch on the eastern side of Carson City, also named for the Andersen family.

University of Nevada students to be housed in Circus Circus tower following July 5 dorm explosion

The University of Nevada has announced that students who were set to be put up in the Argenta Dormitory at the Reno campus will now be relocated to a tower at Circus Circus following the July 5 explosion that destroyed a good amount of the building and left a handful of students with minor injuries.

In addition, the resident dining facility on the first floor of Argenta, in which all dormitory students with paid meal plans eat during the year for most meals, was also damaged and will remain closed for the next academic year.

Executive director Linda Buchanan was recently diagnosed with Behcet’s Disease, a rare auto-immune disorder after two years of strange symptoms and increasingly poor health. Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps.

Approximately 1,500 housing units could be coming soon to Carson City

There are currently 21,692 housing units in Carson City, according to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority’s most recent study. There could be an additional 1,500 housing units available in the coming years. The developments range from being under review to now under construction.

Transitional housing for recovering addicts coming to Carson City

It’s long been established that addiction is a disease, one that can be overcome with treatment. Carson City’s courts, through options such as alternative sentencing, drug court, and the most recent addition of misdemeanor treatment court, has taken steps to combat addiction.

However, there is a hole in their treatment process, and a large one at that: safe, sober housing.
