Thank goodness we are only two months from the first day of summer; spring is such an unpredictable season. Blustery today, rainy tomorrow, the threat of some snow in a few days. Take advantage of a nice day whenever it appears. Bike night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is one way to do that.

Sunday, April 17: Things to do around Carson City

Sunday is fun day. Get ready for springtime flowers with the Anniversary Sale at Greenhouse Garden Center. If you can’t wait for your own flora to grow, join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park during their Wildflower Walk to the Deadman’s Creek gazebo. Let the little ones burn off some energy at the Carson Car Center’s Grand Opening: free hot dogs, hamburgers, and a bounce house make for a fun time.

Business Spotlight: Flocchini family keeps with Carson City tradition

When the Flocchini family, owners of Sierra Meat and Seafood Company in Reno, purchased The Sausage Factory last May from long-time owner Joe Tonino, they sought to build upon an already good product.

The only thing that changed at the time was the name. And, as it turns out, not much else has changed since.

The last day of March and we are all itching for some springtime weather. Luckily, we have some nice days ahead. Dust off that motorcycle and head down to Bike Night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Enjoy an afternoon hike with Muscle Powered. The Kiwanis Club just pulled off their big annual Easter Egg Hunt and is always looking for civic minded community members to join: they meet every Thursday at Casino Fandango. If beer brewing is an interest, then check out the monthly meeting of the 395 Brewers at Just Brew It.

Burgers, barbecue and brew: New food items introduced at Greater Nevada Field for Reno Aces season

The Reno Aces Baseball Club and Professional Sports Catering have revamped and reinvented the menus at Bugsy’s BBQ and Duffy’s Ale House within Greater Nevada Field’s premises. Additional game day concepts for the 2016 season include three new signature concession brands and partnerships with local food hotspots, including Wild Garlic pizza, Flocchini sausage and hot dogs made in Carson City and Sierra Meats burger meat.

Billboards warn Carson City of cancer risk due to processed foods

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine — a nonprofit of 12,000 doctors — has placed two billboards warning Carson City residents that cancer-causing processed meats such as hot dogs don’t belong in school meals.

We have a wine walk weekend coming up and you won’t want to miss it. The ground-breaking on the downtown construction is Monday, so downtown will never look quite the same again. Spend the evening in our historic downtown devouring sushi at Kim Lee’s, sampling the chef’s creations at Mystique, or enjoying a cocktail at the Carson Cigar Company. The mood was cheerful Tuesday at Carson City's newest gaming store's grand opening. Outside, employee Tabatha Hughes barbecued hot dogs; inside, a stand of cupcakes and cake decorated to look like a Super Nintendo stood on a display as owners Nick and Mandy Posey (Mandy was decked out in full Super Mario gear) watched on with pride.

Reno Aces to host 'Ticketpalooza' March 12

Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. February 7 is best known as ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ and there are plenty of parties going on around town to help you cheer for your favorite team. The Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff for Super Bowl 50 is at 3:25 p.m. and will air on CBS. Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform in this year’s halftime show.

The Nevada Division of the Pony Express Association keeps history alive and you are welcome to attend their monthly meeting at Grandma Hattie’s tonight. Pay homage to your favorite singers of yesteryear with karaoke at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

What a weekend in store for us: the Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting, the wine walk, Holiday with a Hero crawl, and more. First things first, though, Thursday fun stuff. Bundle up and head to Gardnerville for the Christmas Kick-off at Heritage Park with Santa, a tree lighting, and fireworks if the weather cooperates. Empty Bowls is hosting a preview night at the First Presbyterian Church; for a donation of $25 or more you get first pick of the handmade bowls that members of the community have made and decorated over the past year, and that includes admission to the soup fest tomorrow.

The Polar Express takes its first trip of the season today, and I hope you got your tickets. The annual event always sells out. Check here for ticket information; you may get lucky. Take the kids to the Carson City Library for weekly story time and check out CCAI’s Industrial Art Exhibit while you’re there. Today is the last day it will be on display. Hear stories of Old Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel. Or take a trip to the Nevada State Museum: the bombing of a Basque village during the Spanish Civil War and the affect it had on the United States is the topic of this month’s Francis Humphry lecture.

Are you ready for this? Nevada Day weekend has arrived and brings with it a downtown filled with friends, neighbors, and fun. Hot air balloons, the annual beard contest, the parade, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, and more make this time of year amazing. The carnival at Mills Park, and the Pow-Wow at the Carson Colony take the festivities to the next level.
