May events in Lyon, Washoe counties celebrate Nevada's historic preservation and archaeology

CARSON CITY — Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Nevada agencies and organizations have worked hard to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the Silver State, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City among Nevada Historic Preservation grants awarded

The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, through the Nevada Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation grant program, has awarded $950,000 to 15 historic and cultural preservation projects throughout Nevada, including the Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City.

Carson Valley's Lampe Ranch added to National Register of Historic Places

The National Park Service (NPS) has listed the Wilhelm Lampe Ranch in Gardnerville in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is helping educate Nevada residents about the unique importance of groundwater in Nevada during National Groundwater Awareness Week, March 11-March 17, 2018.

Two Historic Carson Valley ranches listed in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places

The Nevada Board of Museums and History gave final approval Monday to list both the Wilhelm and William Lampe Ranch and the Louis and Elmer Stodieck Ranch in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. The Nevada State Register is the State’s official list of places worthy of preservation.

Nevada State Prison Medical Care

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Prison Preservation Society will sponsor an educational lecture on the issues surrounding prison medical care by Dr. Karen Gedney.

Dr. Gedney will also discuss her experiences in caring for inmates over a three decade career. The lecture will be presented February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff’s Offices, 911 East Musser Street. Karen Gedney, MD, ABAARM is board certified in both internal medicine and anti-aging regenerative medicine.

Marielle Toll Among Spring Resident Artists in Silver City, Nevada

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Each year, the Resident Artist Program in Silver City hosts at least one emerging artist, in addition to hosting established artists. This year, Marielle Toll, a multi-talented emerging artist, was awarded a residency in the "emerging artists" category. Carson City 2017 Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt begins Monday

In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission is holding their 8th Annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt will consist of 30 historic architectural windows, all within the Carson City Historic District. The contest will run from May 1-26, 2017.

For ninety years, Stewart Indian School fulfilled a federal commitment to pursue Native American education in Nevada. Located three miles southeast of Carson City, the school grounds encompassed 240 acres.
