CARSON CITY — Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Nevada agencies and organizations have worked hard to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the Silver State, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, through the Nevada Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation grant program, has awarded $950,000 to 15 historic and cultural preservation projects throughout Nevada, including the Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City.

The National Park Service (NPS) has listed the Wilhelm Lampe Ranch in Gardnerville in the National Register of Historic Places.


Each year on Earth Day, April 22, more than 1 billion people in 192 countries join together to celebrate and protect our common home. From participating in community clean-up events, to reaching out to local leaders about environmental concerns, and spending time appreciating the outdoors, Earth Day serves as an annual opportunity to promote environmental stewardship across the globe.

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is helping educate Nevada residents about the unique importance of groundwater in Nevada during National Groundwater Awareness Week, March 11-March 17, 2018.

The Nevada Board of Museums and History gave final approval Monday to list both the Wilhelm and William Lampe Ranch and the Louis and Elmer Stodieck Ranch in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. The Nevada State Register is the State’s official list of places worthy of preservation.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Prison Preservation Society will sponsor an educational lecture on the issues surrounding prison medical care by Dr. Karen Gedney.

Dr. Gedney will also discuss her experiences in caring for inmates over a three decade career. The lecture will be presented February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff’s Offices, 911 East Musser Street. Karen Gedney, MD, ABAARM is board certified in both internal medicine and anti-aging regenerative medicine.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office is seeking public involvement in the development of a new Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan that will identify goals that federal, state, and local governments should accomplish in the coming years.

The Nevada Historical Society in Reno is launching a new lecture series that celebrates one of the state’s most important industries: gaming.

Silver City, Nevada- Silver City townsfolk are invited to show visiting cultural researchers their favorite local hiking spots on Tuesday, July 18 at 9:00 am.

The morning walk with “conversation artists” Sue Mark and Bruce Douglas of marksearch is sponsored by the Resident Artist Program in Silver City. Sue explained that she and Bruce "would like to walk with townspeople and see some of their favorite and/or important sites in town." She said they'd also like to learn about locals’ favorite hiking spots.

Silver City residents are invited to a potluck dinner with the current guests at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City on Saturday, July 1.

I’m in love with sunshiny days. Unfortunately, something cloudy is around the corner, so please embrace what today gives us – as Northern Nevadans, we know that the weather is fickle. Thursdays offer up karaoke at Westside Pour House and Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar – too much fun for a weekday. SILVER CITY, Nev. — Each year, the Resident Artist Program in Silver City hosts at least one emerging artist, in addition to hosting established artists. This year, Marielle Toll, a multi-talented emerging artist, was awarded a residency in the "emerging artists" category. At 18 she is already showing remarkable skill and talent in photography, illustration, and web site design.

Finally it feels like spring, and not a moment too soon. Mondays aren’t quite as bad when it’s a beautiful day. The first day of May kicks off Bike Month in Carson City. In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission is holding their 8th Annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt will consist of 30 historic architectural windows, all within the Carson City Historic District. The contest will run from May 1-26, 2017.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Since 2014, Silver City Arts group has hosted music, visual arts, and poetry events and programs. The group draws on the community's own rich resource of artists, artisans and musicians, and also connects with regional and statewide groups to bring programming by national and international artists and musicians. The group of volunteers’ mission is "to encourage the arts, build community, and share our unique town through free, public events." Below are a few highlights.

The Carson City Historic Resources Commission is proud to present CAMP, the Commission Assistance Mentoring Program by the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions. CAMP is a two-day Historic Preservation training series for commissioners, professionals, property owners and the general public! It will be held at the Carson City Community Center on Friday, April 28, 2017 and Saturday, April 29, 2017.

For ninety years, Stewart Indian School fulfilled a federal commitment to pursue Native American education in Nevada. Located three miles southeast of Carson City, the school grounds encompassed 240 acres.

The Comstock Residents Association’s 6th annual Labor Day Rummage Sale and BBQ is this weekend. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Silver City Park at 385 High Street (adjacent to the community center/school house).

SILVER CITY, Nev. — The "Silver Pavilion" Inaugura- Palooza concert on August 20th was a big success with at least 150 folks from near and far in attendance during the 6 hour event. The festival style public event was held to celebrate the much anticipated addition of a new outdoor stage to the region's arts and music scene.
