Nevada Day and the big parade are just one week away, but first is the annual Carson City Ghost Walk this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in downtown Carson City.

MINDEN, Nev. — Two Carson High School teachers, Billy McHenry, Math and Entrepreneurship, and Matt Morgan, AP U.S. History, were nominated by their peers as Blue Angels' Key Influencers: people who help to shape attitudes and opinions of youth in their community.

Partnership Douglas County, formerly known as Partnership of Community Resources, hosted the 2nd annual Empower Youth Conference at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 29. PDC, often called “The Partnership”, is a nonprofit community coalition that has served Douglas County since 1993. PDC’s mission is to promote a healthy community through education and resource connection.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Americana with Cadmium Orange", by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 5, 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 5, 2018 to Jan. 31, 2019.

The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last Wednesday, 34 juniors and seniors from Carson High School in Carson City took a tour of the University of Nevada, Reno campus and received their college identification cards. In partnership with the UNR, CHS offers the dual credit EDU 110 course for students interested in pursuing a teaching career.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a talk by artists and writers Andreana Donahue and Tim Ortiz. Their illustrated talk, "Shifting Paradigms" is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union, 302 N Carson St, Carson City.

CARSON CITY — Nevada eighth grade students showed a 5.4 percentage point improvement on the 2017-18 science assessment over last year.

Jobs for America’s Graduates, also known as JAG, is a program across the country that teaches life skills to high school students, so that they can be prepared for the work force after graduation. However, Carson City’s own Pioneer High School’s JAG instructor, Chyanne Corley, has taken that idea farther. She teaches her students not only to be prepared for the work force, but to become confident, well rounded adults.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Department of Education released Career and Technical Education data that demonstrates CTE students in the state are gaining both technical and employability skills required for their chosen CTE Program of Study and high school diploma requirements.

CARSON CITY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, in conjunction with the Nevada Appeal, is selling dining cards featuring coupons from more than a dozen local restaurants. Proceeds will help fund tween and teen leadership programs, Torch and Keystone Clubs.

CARSON CITY — Wednesday marked the opening day to apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship. High school students graduating from a Nevada high school in spring 2019, who plan to attend Western Nevada College in fall 2019, must apply for the scholarship no later than October 31, 2018, to be eligible.

Senior pranks are a common tradition throughout high schools around the country, and CHS is no exception. This year, CHS Seniors definitely kept the tradition going as could be seen by everyone May 31 and again June 1.

The CHS Class of 2018 is going to step onto the football field as a group of students without a diploma and step off the football field as high school graduates with a diploma and a new wilderness in front of them.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Education has announced the launch of a first-of-its kind education-to-workforce initiative known as LifeWorks with a goal of developing more skilled workers for Nevada’s new economy.

Western Nevada College celebrated the graduation of 539 students with 571 degrees and certificates Monday morning at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City.

Western Nevada College is holding is 2018 commencement Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. in the Marv Teixeira Pavilion, 111 E. William Street at the east end of Mills Park in Carson City.
