Welcome To The Circus! Forming the team is Ayako herself having 2 guest studios join her. Tonight’s show is going to be a fantastic display of dance routines from Ayako’s Dance Studio, acrobatic routines from Silver State Gymnastics, and circus acts of aerial silks, pole and lyra from Yaple’s Ballroom.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

One of the many challenges the Nevada Day Committee faces is judging the parade entries, as far as who is the best in which group or category, along with Overall, President, Parade Director, and People’s Choice Awards.

The reason for the difficulty is simple: every parade entry brings their own unique style of artistic expression when it comes to portraying whatever they are truly passionate about, and therefore how do you judge one over the other?

Money, it’s gotta be shoes! It was thirty years ago that Mars Blackmon, Michael Jordan’s famed fanboy played by Spike Lee in the legendary Nike Air Jordan commercials, opined that it was the shoes that made the man.

Carson High School in Carson City will be "A Place to Shine" this Saturday at the third annual Show and Shine Car Show, which raises money for scholarships aimed at providing students and their families the funds they need to participate in extracurricular activities.

The Salvation Army is collecting school supplies and back packs for children in need through August 20. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and the surrounding communities will receive school supplies and back packs as needed.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. With three local theater groups performing this weekend, you’re sure to find a performance that’s right up your alley. Read on and be prepared to be bombarded with options.

Silver State Gymnastics Team competed at the Nevada State Gymnastics Meet in Las Vegas during the March 16-17 weekend.

Sometime in the middle of the night, we gained an extra hour. Use those sixty minutes any way you’d like: extra time in bed, Community Yoga at Comma Coffee, or maybe doing something fun with the kids. Head out to Tumbleweeds in Minden for Family Fun and Fit Day and let the kids burn off a week’s worth of Halloween candy. The Nevada Artists Association is hosting a reception for their artists this afternoon. If you haven’t seen the new Nevada Show, it’s the perfect time to check it out and vote for your favorite piece.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

Silver State Gymnastics continues it's fund raising efforts by hosting a car wash iIn Dayton at S & S Mini Mart & Deli from 1-4 p.m. Please support our Team.

The Silver State Gymnastics Academy Team is hosting a car wash and raffle on Saturday, August 19th from 1-4 p.m. at the Grocery Outlet to help raise money for the team to travel to the State Meet in Las Vegas. Tickets are $5 each for the car wash and raffle tickets are $1/each or $5/6 tickets. Please support the only competitive gymnastics team in Carson!

The Salvation Army is collecting school supplies and backpacks for at-risk children through August 14. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and the surrounding communities will receive school supplies and backpacks as needed.

Boy Scouts of America Troop 33 will host its 4th annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 12, 2017 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

Among the great social changes that drove economic growth in the latter half of the 20th Century was the large-scale entry of women into the labor force. With more Americans working, family lifestyles changed rapidly.

But this growth of the female labor force required families to find ways to care for their children while both parents were at work. Although some parents could rely on grandparents or others to watch their kids, that option was unavailable to many.

Editor’s Note: Berggren, a senior, is Team Captain of the CHS NJROTC Orienteering: On Feb. 17, the Carson High School NJROTC Orienteering Team flew to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the National Orienteering Competition held at Red Top Mountain State Park.

Hunt for underwater treasure at Sand Harbor with the High Desert Divers, all divers and snorkelers are invited. The Ferrari Hill Climb continues today in Virginia City if you feel the need for speed. Galaxy Theater brings another movie classic to the big screen today. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ 60th Anniversary Event plays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. Team USA did what they do best in the Olympics....dominate in almost every facet of the games. Swimming, gymnastics, track, field, basketball, and pretty much anything else.

The United States had one of the greatest Olympic Games ever in decades. Dominating not only the overall medal count, but in every color as well.

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.
