According to Redfin, home prices in Nevada were up 9.7 percent year-over-year in February 2024. At the same time, the number of homes for sale in the state fell by 20.8 percent. While home prices are on the rise, the supply of homes for sale is not meeting demand, creating what is considered a “tight” housing market across the Silver State.

Greater Nevada Credit Union held its 75th annual meeting virtually Tuesday, March 19, 2024, gathering its members to announce the results of its board of directors election. GNCU’s board of directors is comprised of volunteer members who dedicate their time and expertise to the credit union and its subsidiaries, Greater Nevada Mortgage, Greater Commercial Lending, Greater Nevada Insurance and Greater Nevada Financial Services.

Greater Nevada Credit Union has opened its annual scholarship program, which will award $2,000 scholarships to 37 qualifying individuals pursuing their undergraduate, technical or trade school education goals.

In recognition of the start of the holiday season, Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) branches across northern Nevada are collecting donations for those in need on behalf of local nonprofits and the KTVN 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive.

Nevada’s senior population is growing, the percentage of residents aged 65 and older ranges from 10.5 percent to 29.8 percent, according to Truckee Meadows Regional Strategy for Housing Affordability. Many of Nevada’s seniors are faced with harsh realities as their homes age along with them, some homes even becoming unsafe or inaccessible.

Named one of northern Nevada’s Best Places to Work for three consecutive years, Greater Nevada Credit Union will hold a career fair from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at the GNCU South Reno branch located at 6745 Sierra Center Pkwy, in Reno, Nev.

Greater Nevada Credit Union is excited to announce the promotion of Danny DeLaRosa as president and CEO, effective July 1, 2023. DeLaRosa leaves his current role as GNCU chief experience officer to take on executive leadership of Nevada’s largest credit union.

April is Financial Literacy Month and Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) is offering information and resources for people of all ages and generations to tackle their goals and manage their finances. Being financially literate involves skills such as budgeting, investing, borrowing and personal financial management.

Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) held its 74th annual meeting virtually on Tuesday, March 14, to announce the results of its Board of Directors election, give voice to members and recognize those who have held membership at the credit union for 35 years.

At the meeting, Chairman Rob Joiner and Director Marsha Burgess were reappointed to the GNCU Board of Directors and each will serve in their respective positions for another three-year term.

GNCU asks northern Nevadans to contribute nonperishable foods, new children’s toys, new clothes and hygiene items for this year’s Greater Giving campaign by donating at any GNCU branch beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1 through Monday, Dec. 5.

“Smishy” the digital pirate is scheming and scamming through oceans of personal and financial data, taking doubloons and medallions along the way. Like real-world scammers, this sneaky buccaneer texts and calls people falsely claiming to represent a financial institution in the hopes of stealing personal information and funds.

Through the Greater Nevada Mortgage (GNM) Keys to Greater program, a portion of the revenue from every new mortgage or refinanced mortgage funded through GNM in 2021 was donated to the Eddy House. With the help of almost 2,000 mortgage clients, GNM contributed a total of $119,300 last year; this donation helped meet the needs of nearly 12,000 client visits to the Eddy House in 2021.

Greater Nevada Credit Union teamed up with local chef and entrepreneur, Mark Estee, ZLine Kitchen and Bath, and Reno Food Systems, for the Art of Barbecuing, an event held Wednesday, June 16, 2021, to help local youth residents at the Eddy House.

CARSON CITY — Greater Nevada Mortgage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Greater Nevada Credit Union, has donated $33,700 to the Eddy House through its new Keys to Greater campaign.

In the last year, the number of students at the University of Nevada, Reno experiencing food insecurity increased from 22 percent to 24 percent. The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as lacking consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life.

The Salvation Army wants to extend a huge thank you to the community of Carson City. Last Friday, Nov. 20, the nonprofit held its 23rd Annual Turkey Drop. With a year that has seen such a dramatic increase in assistance requests, the amount of turkeys and financial donations The Salvation Army received greatly exceeded what the agency hoped to receive.

Greater Nevada Credit Union, a Carson City-based credit union serving northern Nevada, contributes $25,000 as the first corporate sponsor and financial institution to the Audacity Fund Reno, which provides funding, education and support to local business owners from underserved populations.

At the November 4, 2020 meeting of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center was awarded $14,150 as part of the COVID-19 Rural Recovery Grant Program to print 40,000 Dayton and Mound House map and brochures.

CARSON CITY — To assist with disaster relief during this devastating fire season, Greater Nevada Credit Union has donated $30,000 to three different credit unions coordinating relief efforts in California and Oregon. Rogue Credit Union Foundation in Medford, Ore.; Redwood Credit Union Community Fund in Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Sierra Central Credit Union in Yuba City, Calif. will each receive $10,000 to assist with ongoing relief efforts.

The first USDA Business and Industry CARES Act loan, intended to protect America’s small farms and businesses amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, went to an aquaculture farm in Iowa and was brokered by Carson City-based Greater Commercial Lending (GCL). These CARES Act loans provide working capital to help rural businesses prevent, prepare for or respond to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Greater Nevada Credit Union has awarded 31 Nevada students with scholarships to continue their academic pursuits through the GNCU Scholarship Program. $22,000 went to eleven students from the Carson City area.
